Career Transition Services Specialist

    Assists students in obtaining employment, enlisting in the Military, enrolling into college, relocation needs, child care needs, and transportation.  

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

        Assists and provide guidance to separated or separating students during the prescribed service period, providing placement (employment, apprenticeship and post-secondary education enrollment) trans. services. 

        Establishes robust relationships with employers, community colleges, and other entities to ensure successful placements with good career pathway opportunities for economic self-sufficiency. 

        Establishes thorough knowledge of and referrals to community-based services available to assist Job Corps graduates with successful transition into independent living. 

        Provides positive, individualized services to Job Corps graduates and former enrollees and documented case notes that reflect services provided.

        Develops and maintains a relationship with all local and regional WIA partners and other employment and training organizations, placement agencies, etc.

        Identifies and maintains linkages for potential employment, advanced training, military and other placement opportunities for all terminating students.

        Maintains liaisons with employers, labor unions, state employment service offices, and Job Corps’ placement and support agencies/contractors to facilitate the on-going and continuous placement of students.

        Identifies separated students no longer employed or in school and ensures another reconnection with a placement agency, school or remote Career Transition Specialist.

        Conducts mock interviews with students entering the Career Transition Phase and provides further focus on job search techniques.

        Creates and maintains a caseload of active students and maintains weekly contact by telephone, email, social media, and home visits for all not placed students and completes documentation of such.  Maintains monthly contact and documentation with all placed students.

        Visits classrooms, CPP and Career Technical Trades to familiarize students with Career Transition services.

        Meets with CTR Classroom to educate students on CTS Services and expectations and coordinates mock interview sessions, job fairs and career days.

        Develop three (3) new employers each week to add to our Job Bank to assist students in job searching and reaching placement goals. 

        Maintain a file folder for each student on case load and ensure all information is accurate and up to date. 

        Conduct exit interview with all separating students to ensure they have the local one stop information and CTS contact information. 

        Identifies support services needed for relocation; arranges transportation; makes referrals.

        Participates in ESP’s (Evaluation of Student Progress) along with Counselor, CTT Instructor, Education Instructors, and Independent Living Advisors.

        Initiates contact with former enrollee students prior to their separation from the Center.

        Participate in the mentoring program on Center.

    SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

        Demonstrated working knowledge of the targeted job markets, area employers, armed forces recruitment offices, community agencies, etc. 

        Strong interpersonal skills; excellent communication skills both oral and written; strong presentation skills

        Strong problem-solving skills

        Proven job placement marketing skills

        Ability to establish liaisons and interact with private and public agencies

        Meticulous documentation/recording skills and attention to detail; excellent time management skills

        Computer literate with emphasis on Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

        Bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, business, communications, or closely related field; or 

        Associate’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, business, communications, or closely related field and two years related experience. 

    EXPERIENCE:

        1 year of experience working in the workforce development field, marketing, or placement related field. 

    OTHER:

        Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

        Retrieving and storing files and supplies; occasionally carrying and/or lifting light objects

        Driving to business locations, community agencies, etc.
