Chemical Plant Operator jobs in the United States

Chemical Plant Operator controls equipment and systems that process chemical substances and materials into products. Operates equipment and monitors the production process to ensure efficient and safe output. Being a Chemical Plant Operator follows standard operating procedures and performs in process quality checks to identify and resolve issues during processing. Troubleshoots problems with equipment, respond to system notifications and makes required adjustments as needed. Additionally, Chemical Plant Operator enters required production data and information into logs. May unload or move materials. Follows all procedures for safe material handling and required safety gear. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or team leader. The Chemical Plant Operator works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     We have 7 sites in 6 states that are managed by a staff of professionals from across the country using lean manufacturing practices.

    Our Texarkana facility is our Flagship plant. We are looking to increase operational output, acquire new customers, expand current operational sites when feasible, build new facilities when and where product demand can justify the need, and expand into other chemistries.

    Responsibilities:

    • Follow all company safety policies and procedures including housekeeping protocols
    • Follow all standard operating procedures for manufacturing using batch production
    • Operate valves, pumps, meters, agitators, and other basic manufacturing equipment
    • Monitor product quality by performing basic chemical analysis
    • Monitor tank inventory levels
    • Transfer finished products to storage tanks as needed
    • Document production activities on batch sheets, forms, logs and filling out reports as needed
    • Perform minor maintenance and preventive maintenance tasks (replace valves, filters, install CPVC fittings and pipes, etc)
    • Maintain the work area in a clean and organized manner
    • Other duties as directed by the Plant Supervisor

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required, technical or vocational training preferred
    • Prior experience in chemicals, manufacturing, or related industry is a plus
    • A solid understanding of safety rules and practices in an industrial environment
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions
    • Basic math and writing skill
    • Basic understanding of laboratory procedures and equipment is a plus
    • Good mechanical skills
    • Basic knowledge of motors, pumps, valves, pipes, fittings, hoses, bulk tanks, product movement (liquid and powder) from tanks and rail cars is a plus.
    • Multi-tasking and problem solving simultaneously while under time constraints
    • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
    • Ability to communicate with operators, drivers, and managers during shift change

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

    Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
