    The Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences at the University of Missouri School of Medicine is seeking an experienced academically oriented senior surgical pathologist with rank based on academic record at the associate or full professor level to be Chief of Anatomic Pathology.

    Job Details:

    Responsibilities will involve directing the activities of Anatomic Pathology including Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology and Autopsy Services; establish an effective working relationship with the Medical Staff, Hospital Administration and other Departments regarding the Anatomic Pathology operations; and assist the Chair in carrying out the policies for the daily operation and quality of the Anatomic Pathology services including responsibility for meeting CAP accreditation.

    The Chief will ensure excellence in teaching of medical students and residents and will interact directly with the Department’s ACGME-accredited Residency Program Director as needed. The chief will assist ongoing basic and translational research in the areas of expertise of the faculty and trainees and collaborate with colleagues from other departments corresponding with subspecialty interests. The department is also home to the Medical Examiner office.

    The Department of Pathology is staffed by 14 clinical faculty, 7 PhD researchers, 7 anatomy PhD faculty, and13 residents and post-sophomore fellows in anatomic and clinical pathology. In addition to general Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology services, specialty diagnostic subservices include neuropathology, hematopathology, and renal pathology. Specific faculty have subspecialty training in and/or have developed internationally-acknowledged expertise in cytology, gastrointestinal, hematopathology, head and neck, and bone/soft tissue pathology. The AP services perform over 23,000 surgical cases, 13,000 cytology specimens, and approximately 600 forensic and medical autopsies per year. The environment provides excellent opportunities for clinical and translation research as well as collaborations with investigators in the School of Medicine and University campus.

    Candidates must have a MD degree or equivalent, be board-certified in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and be eligible for licensure in the State of Missouri. Fellowship training and/or experience in general surgical pathology and/or a subspecialty area of surgical pathology or cytology, especially head and neck, pulmonary or breast, is encouraged.

    Qualifications:

    • MD or DO
    • Have certification by the American Board of Pathology in AP/CP or AP.
    • Subspecialty expertise in an area of surgical pathology and/or cytology
    • Eligibility for unrestricted licensure for the practice of medicine in Missouri.
