Civil Engineer designs and supervises construction projects such as airports, bridges, channels, dams, railroads, or roads. Reviews designs, tests and assesses materials, and performs necessary data collection and calculations in areas such as traffic forecasting, soil capacity, groundwater analysis, and structure design. Being a Civil Engineer responsibilities also include estimating costs, estimating personnel and material needs, preparing proposals, and establishing completion dates. May also assist in inspecting aging infrastructure or overseeing improvement projects. Additionally, Civil Engineer requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. May require a Professional Engineer License (PE). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Civil Engineer work is closely managed. Responsibilities:- May be expected to design portions of a project.
- Makes calculations, using engineering formulas and skills.
- Uses catalogs to specify items where original design is not required.
- Instructs drafters how to reduce designs into completed drawings.
- Performs research and writes opinions.
- Uses computer to run standard programs in order to solve engineering problems.
- Performs other work as apparent or assigned.
- Works safely and abides by the firm’s policies and procedures.
- Expected to design portions of a project without immediate oversight.
- Responsible for task budgets under the supervision of a Project Manager.
Requirements:- May be expected to design portions of a project.
- Understands the physical environment – including landforms and topography – and how these elements interact with the built environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective technical skills.
- Team working skills.
Qualifications:
- Must have a degree in engineering.
- 0-5 years' related experience.
- Alternatively, may have a Master’s degree and no experience.
- Have passed the EIT Exam.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting, walking, hiking, and standing.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. at a time.
- Mobility control of hands to setup equipment, handle samples, and operate tools.
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.
- Adherence to safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment.
