Civil Science is currently seeking a qualified
Field Engineer to join our expanding construction engineering management team in
Northern Utah. As a Field Engineer, you will be responsible for executing engineering tasks in various field environments related to the design and construction of local roadway and state DOT projects. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and technicians to ensure that projects are completed efficiently and meet quality standards. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in diverse settings.
Projects are throughout northern Utah with the focus being in Davis, Weber, and Cache Counties. This position works directly under a Resident Engineer and is expected to grow to fill that position.
Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications for real-world application
- Review and track engineering submittals for contract compliance.
- Coordinate, train and supervise field inspection staff
- Resolve design errors and engineer design solutions in the field
- Prepare cost estimates and change orders
- Oversee quality control processes and ensure that all engineering work meets company standards and client expectations.
- Review/Maintain accurate records of field activities, including project documentation, technical reports, and equipment inventory.
- Help monitor project budgets and ensure projects stay within financial constraints.
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project success. Address any issues that arise promptly.
- This position will perform on-site daily observation of the contractor's construction work and compare the work product to the project's approved plans and specification
- Coordinate closely with contractors, clients, stakeholders, and team members. Provide regular updates on project status, milestones, and challenges.
- Ensure all projects comply with relevant regulations, codes, and industry standards.

Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Engineering
- Passed FE exam and has EIT
- 1-5 years of recent experience in highway/DOT projects is required.
- Proven ability to think critically and ensure a successful project outcome.
- Working knowledge of related aspects of civil engineering projects including: materials testing, land surveying, construction inspection and CADD.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively to overcome challenges.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass both a criminal background check and driving record review
Nice To Have Or Will Obtain Once Hires
- UDOT CEM and partnering certifications will be completed within 1 month of hire date.
- Knowledge of UDOT software systems such as ProjectWise and MasterWorks
- Preference given to candidates who can demonstrate experience with UDOT design and construction standards.
- 24 months of prior experience with technical infrastructure related construction projects, DOT experience preferred.
