As a consumer, you’re protected by the Missouri Weights, Measures and Consumer Protection Division every time you shop. The division ensures the accuracy of all commercial weighing and measuring devices in Missouri. This is accomplished by annually certifying commercial weighing and measuring devices. The division has weights and measures inspectors who certify the accuracy of large and small scales. Any device used to determine the price of a commodity stands to be tested and certified by a weights and measures official. Whether it is a scale used in a grocery store, at a farmer’s market, or at a roadside produce stand, the device should bear an approval seal from the Weights, Measures and Consumer Protection Division.

LOCATION: Springfield, Missouri Successful applicant must reside in Christian or Greene counties or be willing to relocate. Successful applicant territory includes: Christian, Greene, Polk, Stone and Taney counties.

This position requires daily travel in assigned territory and sometimes overnight travel as deemed necessary. State vehicle provided.

Salary: $40,925.76 annually (includes full state benefit package)

What you'll do:

• Ensure all commercial scales/devices are inspected for accuracy, installation requirements, and suitability once per calendar year.
• Candle and grade eggs at every licensed location within the State of Missouri.
• Conduct price verification, package inspection at a variety of locations.
• Prepare and submit activity, inspection and all official documentation weekly and monthly in a timely manner.
• Maintain a state vehicle and assigned inspection equipment.
• Daily travel in assigned region and plan, schedule work activities to achieve established program goals, and represent the Department in a professional manner at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two or more years of experience involving public contact; AND possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Ability to learn and have a working knowledge of state and federal statutes, rules and regulations pertaining to weights and measures.
