Are you a motivated, self managing individual who wants to help support Alaska’s next generation of K12 educators? Do you want to use your Communication skills to support both traditional and non-traditional students on their educational journeys? Are you looking for an employer who respects your ability to self-manage your time and allows for flexibility in work schedule and modality in exchange for your high quality effort? We would love for you to join us at the Fairbanks based offices of the University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Education’s office of K-12 Outreach.

The UAF School of Education’s Office of K-12 Outreach delivers high quality educator support services to the state of Alaska. We manage the state’s Educators Rising program and the Alaska State Mentor Program. Our goal is to uplift the profession of education across the entire career of educators: from when they first might get interested in middle and high school to those hard early years of running their own classrooms, to the end of their careers when they want to give back and be mentors to a fresh crop of new teachers entering the profession. The office of K-12 Outreach is committed to statewide partnerships that support each of these phases of an educator’s life, the net result of which is a quality education for all of Alaska’s children. We are looking for a new Communication Manager to lead a new and expanded communication effort focused across each of our programs to support new and burgeoning Grow Your Own efforts around the state.

The purpose of this position is to support all of the K12 Outreach programs through the development and implementation of a comprehensive communication plan. As part of that effort, some of the things you can look forward to doing in this position include developing and maintaining multi channel communication campaigns designed to enhance partnership building between school districts, community-based organizations, DEED, and UA educator preparation programs to support the development of high quality and robust Grow Your Own educator pathways in the state. Specifically you will be working with, and coordinating across all of K-12 Outreach’s programs; with the EdRising program manager to support the development and implementation of services for highschool students entering UA system educator preparation programs, with the ASMP manager to bridge from educator preparation program to early career development, and with the Director and Assistant Director to coordinate office wide information needs The position includes opportunities to travel to both urban and rural communities across Alaska.

Our ideal candidate will have previous or current Communication experience working in an educational setting. They will have had experience in managing professional digital and social media accounts, as well as, working with more traditional print and broadcast media outlets. They will be skilled in time management, independent and collaborative problem solving, juggling multiple simultaneous tasks, and have strong communications skills.

Four years of progressively responsible communications experience relevant to the program, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
