Community Development Representative implements the economic development lending activities to support or subsidize improvements in the community. Establishes and maintains relationships with groups and organizations in the community to identify lending and other business development opportunities. Being a Community Development Representative develops an understanding of public programs and community needs to ensure effective community outreach and support development. Represents the institution within the community and is a resource for information about products and services that are available. Additionally, Community Development Representative adheres to all operational procedures and complies with Community Reinvestment Act and other regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Community Development Representative occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     Position Summary:
    The Development Advisor is responsible for developing and implementing the Kalamazoo Community Foundation's plans and strategies for attracting major gifts by engaging with new donor prospects and implementing acquisition strategies for increased giving from both new and current donors. The Development Advisor serves as the primary relationship manager for and identification of new prospects with the capacity of a potential major gift to KZCF, while living or as a planned gift. The Development Advisor will be expected to initiate and cultivate relationships with new prospects across Kalamazoo County and to educate new audiences on the work we do. The Development Advisor is expected to work collaboratively with other staff, be creative and innovative in looking for continuous improvement and new ideas for implementation.
    Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
    New Donor Development
    • Assess the philanthropic needs and preferences of potential donors to inform the design and improvement of the Community Foundation's products, services, and marketing outreach and collateral.
    • Develop experiences for prospective donors to increase their awareness of and affinity for the Kalamazoo Community Foundation.
    • Work closely with professional advisors (estate attorneys, financial advisors, tax accountants) to educate them and their clients on the mutually beneficial gift options.
    • Develop the strategies and goals for donor recruitment events and work with the Marketing Communications teams to execute events.
    • Oversee individual follow up and outreach after donor recruitment events.
    • In partnership with the Marketing Communications team, design the digital strategy to increase emerging donors’ awareness of and engagement with KZCF.
    • Regularly represent the Community Foundation at key community events and on occasion serve as a guest speaker.
    • May participate as an active member and/or board member of nonprofit community organizations and service clubs throughout the Community Foundation’s geographic area per KZCF strategic goals.
    • Maintain accurate action reports in Raisers Edge
    Annual Giving
    • Working with the Philanthropic Services team to improve strategies to increase annual giving (year-round) from current and new donors.
    • Create and monitor a list of potential donors to cultivate and use regular annual giving as a pipeline to major gifts (while living or in estate plans.)
    Initiative/Campaign Fundraising
    • Develop and implement annual fundraising strategy around new and innovative major gift campaigns.
    • Work closely with the Development staff and Marketing & Communications to create and execute an annual initiative/campaign calendar.
    • Create and monitor outreach and communications, including appropriate database requests, both digital and printed.
    • Monitor the return or success of each initiative/campaign in order to learn and improve for future efforts.
    Services to Current Donors
    • Determine the best strategies for reaching out to current donors and soliciting major gifts.
    • Develop, nurture and grow relationships with existing donors to increase commitment to community and KZCF, including in the form of planned gifts.
    • Guide donors to achieve their charitable goals by providing information about KZCF's services and impact
    • May serve as relationship manager for a selected group of individual donors/fund representatives
    Fund Representative Relationships
    • Lead strategy to engage current agency individual donor fund representatives and identify ways to collaborate with major gift donors
    • Engage prospective agency partners to develop plans for creating and growing their endowment funds.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    Required:
    • BA degree or an equivalent combination of training and relevant experience
    • Prior experience with non-profit agencies
    • Affinity for Kalamazoo County and a desire to ask people to contribute to creating an equitable community
    • Proven track record of fundraising success
    • High relationship drive and a self-starter
    • Not afraid to think creatively about fundraising tactics and approaches
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to provide an educational component to inform prospective donors.
    • Comfortable working with the public
    • Must be able to work effectively one-on-one as well as make formal presentations to groups
    Preferred:
    • At least five years in a nonprofit organization involving fundraising
    • Working knowledge of Raisers Edge or other Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
    • Enthusiasm for and demonstrated success with campaign fundraising
