Essential duties and responsibilities:
Step I:
- Risk management activities including risk assessments, root cause analysis and investigations
- Work with the Compliance and Risk team to establish and maintain an audit plan for all departments.
- Auditing departments to ensure compliance with policies, guidelines, rules and regulations set forth by Valley-Wide and governing entities.
- Perform focused, scheduled and non-scheduled audits, root cause analysis and investigations as needed due to compliance, risk, infection or safety concerns or due to patient complaints, adverse events or HIPAA concerns.
- Assist in patient complaint, adverse event resolution and reporting
- Provide written and verbal reports of audits, root cause analysis results and investigations to compliance, providers, department heads, Executive Leadership Team as needed.
- Maintain a database of all audit and other risk management activities and updates
- Assist Infection Control Nurse as needed.
- Maintains a high customer service standard.
- Assist in training staff on Compliance, Risk Management, Safety and Infection control topics.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
- Must be able to demonstrate strict confidentiality
- Engage in continuous knowledge development regarding sector’s rules, regulations, best practices, tools, techniques and performance standards.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
- Travel required
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
Step II (in addition to Step I duties & responsibilities):
- Plan and lead risk management committee meetings as assigned.
- Will serve as a resource to internal departments to research and resolve integrity issues.
- Identifies and tracks trends by analyzing incident reports, complaints, adverse events, HIPAA concerns and other risk events.
- Identify and recommend policy, guideline updates to improve investigative outcomes and performance.
- Will exercise independent judgement and discretion in using available resources to identify relevant evidence supporting allegations.
- Assist ICN/Safety with inspections, data entry and drills
Step III (in addition to Step II duties & responsibilities):
- Assist the compliance and risk team with research, contracting and other compliance tasks as assigned.
- Work with department heads to develop and implement internal controls to mitigate risk.
- Assist in identifying and maintaining standards required by regulatory agencies such as AAAHC, CMS, FTCA, etc.
- Independently complete and document inspections and drills at the direction of ICN/Safety.
- Oversee reports and projects
- Represent Valley-Wide on community boards
- Represent Valley-Wide at healthcare forums as needed.
- Research and prepare memos on various health care topics as needed
Requirements:
- High School Diploma required
- Knowledge of the healthcare industry, compliance, coding or auditing preferred. Experience in basic accounting principles, operation and clinical processes, medical claims billing, documentation and/or coding strongly desired.
- Knowledge of healthcare compliance requirements, healthcare regulations and processes.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Able to maintain strong working relationships with other staff and partners.
- Able to manage and navigate multiple priorities simultaneously
- Able to work flexible hours to include early mornings, evenings and weekends to accomplish assigned activities.
- Basic computer skills and experience with relevant software programs. Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Products
- Experience with an Electronic Health Record program
- Strong critical thinking supported by analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Good interpersonal and organization skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, knowledge of business, and presentation skills.
