Summary
Perform performance improvement activities, coordinate and/or instruct classes for the ALS Program under the guidance of the Corporate Director of EMS and Program Medical Director. This will include Cumberland County EMS and Life Link Critical Care Transport of Cape Fear Valley Health System, Cumberland County Emergency Dispatch EMD Program and any other agencies/departments functioning in the Cumberland County EMS System.
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a paramedic required. Previous experience working with paramedic level training programs preferred.
Previous work experience in the development and implementation of Performance Improvement programs preferred.
Current certification by the State of North Carolina as a Level I Paramedic Instructor required. Current certification in International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) as sponsored by the Academy of Emergency Physicians or equivalent required. Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required. Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
Current certification by the North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission as an Emergency Vehicle Driver (EVD) or equivalent required. Certificate of completion of the North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission’s Hazardous Materials Awareness course or equivalent required. Certificates of completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses 100, 200 and 700 required. Valid North Carolina Driver’s License with five (5) years licensed driving experience in North Carolina, or the equivalent required. Level II Paramedic Instructor preferred. Preferred instructor certification for ITLS, BCLS, ACLS, and PALS. All certifications and license must be maintained continuously while employed. Thorough working knowledge of emergency medical procedures, rescue techniques, hazardous materials incidents, equipment and supplies employed in pre-hospital care, and of communications equipment used. Thorough working knowledge of locations in Cumberland County and the cities and locations contained therein, especially major streets, landmarks, rest homes, convalescence care centers and nursing homes. This knowledge being obtained within six months of employment. Ability to work calmly under extremely stressful conditions and follow established rules, procedures and protocols. Ability to deal with patients, their families and others in a courteous, compassionate, professional manner under the most adverse circumstances and an ability to maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and other emergency and health care personnel. Ability to drive all types of ambulance vehicles and a thorough knowledge of safe driving procedures used in the response of emergency vehicles. Ability to lift and move a minimum of one hundred pounds (100 lbs) on a regular basis with the added strength to lift upwards of 150 lbs. When the situation requires, including moving a patient from a bed to the floor, chair to the floor, or from a stretcher to a bed. Is knowledgeable of the age specific physiological, psychosocial, developmental, and spiritual needs of the patients typically served.Hearing, speaking and visual acuity are required for effective supervision. Must possess ability to operate an emergency vehicle and the ability to move around numerous physical locations and within confined areas. Must possess ability to lift heavy objects, up to 150 pounds, with assistance and to assume awkward positions in emergency situations.
