The Compliance Officer ensures that investigations follow the approved process, are lawfully and objectively conducted, are thorough in gathering all material facts and present an accurate accounting of the issues. Conducts investigations of alleged violations of the corporation's ethical standards or non-compliance with applicable laws, regulations and corporate policy. Being a Compliance Officer recommends proactive measures that will reduce the risk of similar future incidents. Presents clear, concise, and factual reports that enable fair and relevant decisions to be made. In addition, Compliance Officer typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. May require a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certification. Being a Compliance Officer contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.     Definition

    This position maintains departmental compliance with TJJD standards and the Texas Administrative Code; provides thorough preparation for compliance audits, including PREA standards; and conducts internal audits/ data management; and policy and procedures updates and organization.

    Requirements/Education

    • Must be at lease 21 years of age
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice or related field required
    • Master’s Degree preferred

    Experience

    • Two (2) years of work related to compliance monitoring/auditing experience preferred

    Essential duties and responsibilities

    • Performs compliance monitoring activities within all divisions of the department. Provides reports of activities/ reviews to Administration.
    • Responsible for reviewing departmental policy & procedures manuals; maintaining knowledge of laws, standards, to ensure practices are compliant.
    • Develops and maintains a department compliance calendar.
    • Assists administrative team in the review and updates of departmental policies and procedures.
    • Collaborates with IT personnel to maintain department website.

    Ability to

    • Demonstrate excellent skills in oral and written communication
    • Interpret and explain state and federal standards, and incorporate them into appropriate departmental policies and procedures
    • Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail
    • Analyze complex qualitative and quantitative data and condense into actionable procedures to maintain and achieve compliance with various minimum standards and oversight entities
    • Ability to read, research, comprehend, summarize, and edit written text, including legal standards and audit documents
    • Organize and schedule meetings, communicate effectively via telephone and videoconference, and meet deadlines associated with audit responses and information gathering
    • Innovate and improve department efficiencies through the use of technology, software applications, and data-information systems

    Salary: $71,775.69; plus, full county benefits which include optional health, dental, and vision plans, bereavement leave, longevity pay, holiday leave, vacation leave, sick leave, a potential 2% cost of living raise annually and up to a 1% performance increase annually, etc.
