An Introduction to Glenstone Museum
Founded with the mission to seamlessly integrate art, architecture, and landscape, Glenstone is an art museum located on over 300 acres of rolling hills and unspoiled woodland in Potomac, Maryland. The museum, opened in 2006 and expanded in 2018, offers nearly 60,000 square feet of exhibition space to showcase its collection of more than 1300 works by 200 contemporary artists. With its expansion, Glenstone now has the ability to welcome 100,000 visitors each year, and admission is always free.
Position Overview
The ideal candidate will possess an academic background or professional experience in the field of construction, architecture, engineering, or similar field. The candidate will possess excellent organizational and time-management skills and ability to manage and supervise all construction activities on and off campus. In the near term, these include a major construction/remediation project in our brand-new state-of-the-art building, The Pavilions. Projects also include exhibition changes, outdoor sculptures installation, new construction, and site/landscape development. The position also provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with various departments within the organization, particularly design, curatorial, engineering and maintenance, facilities, and grounds. All tasks will be required to be accomplished in accordance with ANSI and OSHA standards for quality and safety. Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with multiple departments to determine project needs. Provide construction technical expertise while developing the final design of our projects.
- In collaboration with the project manager, set performance goals and construction schedule deadlines.
- Conduct daily inspections to ensure that OSHA standards are followed throughout construction.
- Ensure that projects are meeting Glenstone’s quality and safety standards.
- Ensure that projects are meeting schedule deadlines.
- Ensure the job site remains safe, clean, and orderly.
- Review, track and provide feedback on submittals, RFI’s and change orders.
- Review and provide feedback on projects’ plan based on a practical understanding of design, constructability, logistics, sequencing and means and methods of construction.
- Manage subcontractors and all on-site logistics while working on exhibitions and/or minor construction projects and ensure that logistics guidelines are followed properly.
- In collaboration with the project manager, report construction progress to all project’s stakeholders.
- If needed, order the appropriate equipment to execute projects’ task.
- Keep track of material stock and orders
- Resolve on-site issues and emergencies.
- Review and process contractor payment applications and vendor invoices.
Required Skills & Experience
- COVID-19 vaccination and up to date on all boosters.
- Strong cultural competence, interpersonal communication, planning, and organizational skills.
- 3-5 years of experience as a construction manager, field superintendent, field engineer or similar position in a related field.
- Computer skills: proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams). Knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Ability to review construction drawings and specifications required for construction.
- Strong working knowledge of construction methods and construction materials.
- Ability to safely operate construction equipment, machinery, and power tools.
- Ability to lead by example, create industrious work site, and practice self-control.
- Able to work well in a team as well as independently.
- Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials in the maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
- Excellent time and project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Problem-solving skills to strategize innovative solutions.
- Goal oriented and self-motivated.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to access all areas of buildings, grounds, public and “behind the scenes” areas located across a 300 acre site.
- Capable of performing strenuous and/or heavy physical labor.
- No impairment of sight, smell, hearing, touch, balance and agility of movement (which cannot be corrected with appropriate devices), which would interfere with ability to work.
- Able to safely lift a load of 40 pounds and carry over a distance of 20 feet.
- Able to access heights and confined spaces.
- Able to remain outside in all weather conditions.
- Able to remain on feet for long periods, climb stairs, ladders, bend and stoop.
Licenses and Certification
- Valid MD, VA or DC driver’s license.
- CDL considered a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of local, state and federal building code regulations.
- OSHA 10 or 30 training completed.
- Bilingual (Spanish) considered a plus.
