It is imperative that our School Psychologist share our vision of improving the state of education in our country.

    Primary Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Identifying and evaluating referred students which requires the psychologist to:
      • Gather background information
      • Conduct interviews and observations
      • Select test instruments valid for student and purpose of evaluation
      • Administer assessments
      • Present interpretation of evaluation to parent and team
      • Submit typed reports
    • Analyzing evaluation data, student records and information pertinent to student learning, and formulating hypotheses and conclusions relating to learning and behavioral issues
    • Participating in eligibility determination and IEP meetings to interpret evaluation results
    • Establishing a program of psychological and behavioral services in the child's Individualized Education Program (IEP) identifying both annual goals and short-term objectives
    • Keeping thorough records and appropriate documentation
    • Working collaboratively with the Student Support Team (SST) to develop plans of assistance for students at risk of academic and/or behavioral difficulty
    • Coordinating school and community services.

    Direct Services

    • Providing individual counseling.
    • Providing group counseling.
    • Providing psycho-education.
    • Providing crisis intervention.
    • Providing parent training.

    Special Education

    • Serving as a member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
    • Conducting social work evaluations and other related assessments for initial evaluations and re-evaluations.
    • Providing related services as prescribed by Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), including social skills, life skills, and transitional skills that can be transferred from school to community.
    • Participating in MDT, IEP, manifestation determination, and other related meetings.
    • Working collaboratively within the classroom setting to implement student IEPs.
    • Collecting data for the purpose of monitoring social/emotional progress and evaluating effectiveness of services.
    • Providing technical assistance on strategies that improve outcomes for special education students.
    • Coordinating the design and implementation of behavior intervention plans and functional behavior assessments.
    • Keeping thorough records of each student receiving services.
    • Completing student progress reports.

    Job Qualifications:

    • Certification as a School Psychologist by D.C. or the National Association of School Psychologists
    • Master’s Degree in Social Psychology, Educational or Clinical Psychology from an accredited institution to include forty two (42) semester hours of graduate level coursework and five hundred (500) clock hours of satisfactory field experience in a school setting under the supervision of a certified psychologist (DCMR 1659.1)
    • Give an array of standardized tests including WJIII and WISC -IV
    • Knowledge of Problems and Issues in Special Education;
    • Knowledge of Public School Law; Urban Issues; Legal and Ethical Issues
    • Evaluation and Diagnosis of Exceptional Children
    • Ability to administer and interpret psychological, intelligence and behavioral assessment instruments
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Knowledge of standardized psychological tests, human growth and development, theories and research on conditions that affect learning and behavior, counseling tools and techniques, interviewing techniques and community resources and services available
    • Awareness of new developments in the field of school psychology through membership and participation in professional organizations and through professional reading and other appropriate staff development activities
    • Knowledge of the fundamentals of IDEA and its impact in the discipline
    • Strong communication skills, oral and written, and an ability to prepare clear and concise reports
    • Ability to use and interpret data
    • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
    • Knowledge of children’s characteristics, needs and development
    • Ability to interact positively with parents and families
