Being a Credit and Collections Director develops policies regarding the investigation of customers, extension of credit lines, and collections. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     JOB SUMMARY:

    The Associate Director of Collections & Impact provides innovative and dynamic leadership to the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum’s collections and impact efforts. This person will create and implement a coordinated strategy for access, interpretation, and learning that engages broad and diverse audiences with the Museum’s collections, archives, exhibitions, programs, and events, increasing public familiarity with the Museum’s identity and mission through public outreach and community engagement. This position will be responsible for exhibition management while also managing the development, research, and interpretation of Marshall Fredericks’s life and art through the Museum’s collections and archives. While working with the Director to implement plans established with the Board of Advisors, this position will participate in discussions concerning institutional priorities and general policies and management issues. They will assist in the preparation of the institution’s budget and take on special assignments as appropriate. This role may supervise student interns and other staff. The ideal candidate for this position has experience planning a wide range of events and programs, organizing complex logistics, overseeing multiple projects, managing traveling and satellite exhibitions, and cultivating a wide range of community partners including donors and grantors.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Collections Management, Registration, and Archival Work

    • Exercises overall responsibility for accessioning, cataloging, and digitizing the collections, including the archival collection, at the Museum.
    • Develops collections plans, policies, and procedures that align strategically with the Museum’s mission and vision.
    • Works with the Director and Collections Committee of the Museum Board to grow and edit the permanent collections guided by the collections plans in an ethical and legal manner.
    • Catalog collections, manage incoming and outgoing loans, and maintain the collections database(s) that includes online/web-based access.
    • Identify key artifacts for acquisition by the institution through the active cultivation of donors and other potential sources.
    • Promote and support research of the collections and archives.

    Exhibitions

    • Plans and researches exhibitions and other outreach programs to broaden use of permanent collections and communicate with university staff and faculty and other partners.
    • Responsible for all exhibition elements including but not limited to loan agreements, (de)installation, didactic/label content, and identifying connections to related academic topics at SVSU.
    • Collaborates with Education and Marketing staff to develop educational and public programs and materials.
    • Connect works in exhibitions and collections to course offerings and interdisciplinary academic projects and initiatives.
    • Work with Marketing & Engagement staff to promote and publicize exhibitions.

    Impact

    • Forge ongoing and lively relationships with individuals, groups, and institutions that will extend museum services to a wider community across diverse populations.
    • Support leadership, strategic execution, and administrative management of all Museum initiatives, programs, and strategies to ensure maximum impact.
    • Ensure community access to the museum through outreach and collaborative programs.
    • Participate in the development and implementation of an institutional strategic plan/framework, long-range budgeting, community engagement and fundraising goals.
    • Integrate data collection, measurement, and assessment into museum processes and programs. Monitor effectiveness, gathering and analyzing qualitative and quantitative statistics, and other engagement metrics for evaluation, reports, grants, and funding proposals.
    • Initiate, design, and lead university class visits exploring the museum’s collections and exhibitions.\
    • Participate in grant writing, grant management, and donor relations in accordance with accepted Museum standards and practices.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's Degree in art history, art education, anthropology, history, non-profit administration, or related humanities field.
    • Five or more years of professional museum, academic, or related experience.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Adobe software.
    • Experience in developing, managing, researching, and interpreting museum collections.
    • Strong orientation toward collaborative and interdisciplinary work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
    • Excellent communication, writing, research, and leadership skills.
    • Demonstrated commitment and ability to develop strong working relationships with co-workers and internal and external stakeholders.
    • Adherence to all professional protocols, procedures, rules, and policies.
    • Stated interest and experience in DEAI in the arts.
    • Experience and ability to positively interact with a diverse campus community.
    • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master’s Degree in relevant field.
    • 10-15 years of related experience.
    • Experience curating exhibitions and creating public programming.
    • Knowledge of museum or non-profit administration as well as collection and archival best practices.
    • Knowledge of education best-practices across various disciplines and an ability to implement a broad range of educational tools and methods.
    • Demonstrated ability in the successful development and maintenance of a wide variety of community partnerships, a commitment to diversity, and ability to develop and nurture relationships with diverse audiences.
    • Substantial knowledge and skills in managing large budgets and providing leadership for strategic-planning initiatives.
    • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Duties are generally performed inside but include outside seasonal activities. Some collections are outside and will require outdoor oversight in all seasons.
    • Some weeknights and weekends, including intermittent travel, will be required.
