Checks credit applications and grants approval within established guidelines for organizations or individuals. Being a Credit Clerk communicates with the customers and other departments to solve the credit problems. May negotiate terms of payment to assist with collection of overdue balances. Additionally, Credit Clerk requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. GENERAL SUMMARY
The Loan Clerk performs clerical loan duties pertaining to member loans such as preparation of lien recording and release documents, change in loan term requests, loan payoff requests, assists with loan processing by gathering documentation, obtaining credit reports, VOI, VOE, valuations, title search, etc., to complete loan applications assists with loan funding as needed. Responds to questions and/or provides information upon request from members (internal and external). Processes requests/transactions, as appropriate. Assist members and potential members in understanding and utilizing Credit Union products and services.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs clerical duties such as recording and releasing credit union liens, preparing payoff letters, processing change in loan term requests.
2. Assists with processing new loan applications. Organizes loan packages, ensures all documentation is present. Obtains additional information as requested by the Loan Officer. Ensures all documentation is present for a Loan Officer to make a decision. Forwards to Loan Officer for decision.
3. Helps with various components of the application such as ordering credit reports, verifying income, and confirming information with creditors, the applicant, and the applicant’s employer.
4. Ensures that all loan documentation is complete before processing the loan request. Funds and disburses the loan once approved by a Loan Officer. Maintains all loan documentation in the member’s file, ensuring that the policies and procedures of the Credit Union are followed.
5. Represents the Credit Union in a professional manner and maintains positive member relations.
6. Provide phone coverage for department queue as needed.
7. Performs other Consumer Lending, processing and/or administrative duties assigned by the Lending & Collections Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) education required. Some college level courses in accounting and credit analysis desired.
Experience/Skills/Knowledge:
1. Minimum 1 to 2 years’ banking experience, with consumer lending, credit cards and/or mortgage processing preferred.
2. Knowledge of consumer lending policies and procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.
3. PC proficient including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the Internet.
4. Excellent oral, written, telephone and interpersonal communication skills.
5. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Attention to detail.
6. Must possess a strong service orientation.
7. Ability to manage multiple projects/priorities simultaneously and produce the desire results.
8. Ability to work in a financial institution branch environment and utilize standard office equipment.
