Curriculum Specialist, Sr. designs and develops training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Conducts skill assessments and collects input to identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Being a Curriculum Specialist, Sr. consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. Develops curricula supporting defined competency models or skill frameworks. Additionally, Curriculum Specialist, Sr. writes and edits outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Evaluates the software or collaboration tools to be selected for training. Establishes metrics to use to evaluate training effectiveness. May collaborate with vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. May coach trainers. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Curriculum Specialist, Sr. work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group. A specialist on complex technical and business matters.   • Durango School District 9-R is accepting applications for a K-12 Math Curriculum Specialist under the Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Department. Existing Durango School District 9-R 183 Day Licensed Staff hired into this position will be placed on the Cell they currently reside on times 1.05 index plus an additional 10 days for the total salary, per the current Licensed Compensation System guidelines. New hires to the District will be placed within the range below. Begins August 1, 2024.

    SUMMARY: The Instructional Specialist is an integral part of ensuring all students meet or exceed district graduation standards and developing a collaborative culture among adult learning communities. The role of the specialist is to develop teacher understanding, their reflective capacity, and artful application of research based instructional practices, data-based decision making, and the delivery of standards-aligned learning plans for the success of every student. The Instructional Specialists will collaborate with one another to create and facilitate effective adult learning opportunities that align with the district vision and mission. He/she ensures effective instruction in the classroom through modeling, co-teaching/planning, facilitating professional learning communities, providing feedback to teachers, and presenting best practices. The Instructional Specialist will demonstrate passion and leadership in providing successful learning experiences for every student. The Instructional Specialist is not a supervisory position and will not include the evaluation of teachers.

    • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the district's K-12 mathematics curriculum, ensuring alignment with state standards and best practices.
    • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to identify curriculum needs and develop effective instructional resources.
    • Provide professional development for teachers on effective math pedagogy, curriculum implementation, and assessment strategies.
    • Coach and mentor instructional leaders and teachers in the use of research-based instructional practices to improve student learning outcomes.
    • Analyze student data to identify areas of strength and weakness, and use this data to inform curriculum development and instruction.
    • Stay current on math education research and trends, and identify and recommend new instructional materials and resources.
    • Support the integration of technology into the math curriculum.
    • Communicate effectively with parents and the community about the district's math program.
    • Other duties as assigned

    ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Minimum: Bachelor's degree from accredited university. Extensive education and/or training in Thinking Strategies and/or Visible Thinking instructional model for teaching and learning is preferred.

    EXPERIENCE: Minimum: Three years of successful teaching experience required. Experience in teacher leadership, learning focused conversations, and/or cognitive coaching preferred.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver's license required. Colorado Teaching License.
