    Job Description

Food and Agriculture is one of the largest industries in Michigan. Grow with us and make a difference!

    About this Position:
MDARD has prioritized the need to coordinate department-wide efforts towards consistently and effectively recruiting the best talent into the department. This priority runs parallel to, and in coordination with a food and agriculture industry need to recruit talent along the entire supply chain from farm to retail. In addition, MDARD has identified a need to prioritize professional development delivery for all staff to improve our ability to retain engaged, effective, and high-performing staff. This position will also collaborate with the DEI initiative to help incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion into both the recruiting and professional development programs.

This position functions as an administrative assistant to the SAA 15 (Retention, Professional Development and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer) in support of MDARD’s Recruiting Program. The position is responsible for continuously enhancing MDARD’s recruiting, professional development, and DEI strategy by assisting with administering, monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of department programs toward recruiting, developing, and retaining staff, while also incorporating equity and inclusive practices into programmatic development.

The incumbent will work closely with department Bureaus, Human Resources, and Executive Office to ensure alignment between department processes and practices, and Civil Service responsibilities, regulation, and specifications. This position will play a crucial role in helping to enhance MDARDs recruitment efforts, contributing to the professional development initiatives, and integrating DEI into all aspects of the job.

This position may be eligible for part time remote work.

    About MDARD:

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) is comprised of four bureaus that use a customer-driven, solution-oriented approach to cultivate and expand new economic opportunities for the food and agricultural sector; safeguard the public's food supply; inspect and enforce sound animal health practices; control and eradicate plant pests and diseases threatening the $104.7 billion food and agriculture system; preserve the environment by which the farming community makes their living and feeds consumers; and protect consumers by enforcing laws relating to weights and measures.

MDARD offers a positive work-life balance with optional hybrid work options and flexible work schedules. Department leaders support a great team culture and are committed to professional development.

MDARD is committed to a department-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion program that builds upon our values and invests in our employees. We provide an inclusive culture through involvement and empowerment, where the inherent worth and dignity of all people are recognized.
