Dean of Arts and Sciences manages administrative functions of the college of arts and sciences. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Arts and Sciences leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Arts and Sciences requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Arts and Sciences manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Arts and Sciences typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. STEAM Facilitator

  • The STEAM (STEM Art) Facilitator position is grant-funded and provides Out-of-School time enrichment to students with a focus on support for Science Expo (elementary students), and engaging with Hawai’i-centric STEM opportunities, through facilitation of virtual programs and field trips. Grades 3-12 are served, with different age groups attending different days.


    This temporary part-time position is available immediately through May 2025, with the possibility to renew for SY25-26. The STEAM Facilitator reports to the Beyond School Club Coordinator, and has a set schedule of 2:00 - 4:30pm on Mondays through Thursdays, and 12:00 - 2:30pm on Fridays, with 2.5 hours of prep time allotted per week. This schedule has some flexibility for the right candidate. Additional projects and field trips are logged as the position demands. This position is in-person at the Arts and Sciences Center (HAASPCS campus) and can be expected to work both inside and outside learning environments as needed.


    Key Responsibilities:
    • Afterschool Clubs
      • Develop & Implement Curriculum: Create, plan, and facilitate hands-on STEAM activities and projects for elementary, middle and high school students.
      • Engage & Inspire Students: Create a fun, safe, and engaging environment for students to explore various STEAM fields, which could include; robotics, coding, environmental science, and engineering challenges, dependent on facilitator experience.
      • Provide Scaffolding & Support for Elementary Science Expo Participants: One day a week will be dedicated to assisting elementary students to conceptualize, perform and document experiments for the HAAS Science Expo.
      • Encourage Collaboration: Foster teamwork and communication by organizing group projects and activities that promote cooperative learning.
    • Field Trips
      • Plan & Coordinate Field Trips: In collaboration with the THINK Grant Coordinator, organize and lead quarterly field trips to Hawai’i Island science-related sites such as science museums, botanical gardens, cultural and historical sites, nature reserves, or aquariums, emphasizing hands-on learning and real-world connections to STEAM concepts.
      • Safety & Logistics: Ensure the safety of all students during field trips, including organizing transportation, ensuring appropriate chaperone ratios, and following all safety protocols.
      • Educational Support: Provide guidance and educational insights to students during field trips, linking real-world experiences to club learning.
      • Partnerships & Community Engagement: Build relationships with local science institutions, museums, and other local STEAM-related organizations to offer exciting, new field trip opportunities for students.
    • Administrative & Miscellaneous:
      • Reporting & Documentation: Maintain attendance records and deliver participant surveys to facilitate grant reporting on outcomes and impact.
      • Safety: Maintain awareness of and adherence to school and safety policies and procedures. Report potential health and safety problems to BSC Coordinator as they arise. Alert ASC Leadership, BSC Coordinator, and HAASPCS Assistant School Director immediately upon hearing or observing a safety or public relations problem.
      • Collaboration: Work closely with Beyond School Clubs Coordinator, THINK Grant Coordinator, other educators, school administrators, and community partners to ensure the success and continuity of the STEAM program

    Technical Competencies

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
    • Valid Driver’s license.
    • Knowledge of Hawaii DOE Common Core Standards.
    • Maintains confidentiality in accordance with contract, State, and Federal law, including FERPA and HIPAA
    • Willing to obtain CPR certification (paid by employer) upon hire.
    • Teaching and classroom management experience
    • Knowledge of common academic, social, behavioral, and developmental milestones of students.
    • Comfortable working with technology and various software.
    • Mathematical skills.
    • Read, analyze, and interpret reports and documents.
    • Ability to plan, manage, and execute activities and field trips efficiently, ensuring that all logistical details are covered.
    • Able to record and analyze data.
    • Observe school and state policies.
    • Adhere to state and federal laws.
