Baystate Academy Charter Public School (BACPS) is a college preparatory charter school in Springfield, MA providing rigorous academic standards and educational opportunities rooted in health sciences to students in grades 6 – 12. Through unique partnerships with Baystate Health and EL Education, BACPS will prepare students to enter the world of higher education and health careers with scientific knowledge, ethics, integrity, and compassion.
BACPS is seeking a dynamic, dedicated, and talented Dean of Students with a background in youth development. The Dean of Students will work with the principal and teachers to develop and promote a culture of high expectations with high levels of support to ensure success for all students. BACPS grounds all practices in a student-centered approach to learning and discipline that focuses on the use of logical consequences and restorative practices to promote personal accountability while establishing a safe and structured learning environment. The Dean of Students will serve as a support to teachers in developing this environment in their classrooms and in achieving high levels of engagement and learning from all students. The dean will serve as the coordinator for the BACPS Crew Program (small group advisories), developing the Crew Curriculum Map and supporting teachers in the planning and delivery of Crew advisory lessons and experiences.

Supports teachers in developing classroom structures to ensure all students are well known

Supports teachers in establishing and maintaining consistent classroom routines in a student-centered classroom

Provides behavior counseling and support for high-needs students such as observations, parent conferences, home visits, and intervention groups

Coordinates a team of teachers to staff the in-school reflection/ suspension room

Serves as a member of the school leadership team and as a member of the student success team

Supports crew leaders and teachers in promoting outstanding daily attendance and on-time arrival for all students

Participates in all professional development activities

Participates in all staff meetings including school governance

Demonstrates awareness of school/community needs and initiates activities to meet those identified needs

May perform other projects and duties as directed by the principal

Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in an applicable field of study/education from an accredited college or university

Excellent knowledge and understanding of the teaching and learning process

Experience and training in conflict resolution strategies and/or restorative practices

Classroom teaching experience and experience in youth development

Demonstrated experience working with challenge groups in a standards-based environment, including utilizing assessments to place students, flexible pacing, flexible instruction, grouping and regrouping, acceleration, enrichment, and independent study to meet student needs

Demonstrated success in effectively solving challenging problems through a positive, collaborative approach
