Position Summary:
Paraprofessional/Instructional Assistant to support students with multiple impairments, including students with complex medical needs. For some students, complex medical issues require frequent care from qualified personnel. Nursing services and therapies are integrated into the classroom with the emphasis on teaming with classroom staff to meet the objectives of each student’s Individualized Education Plan.
Instructional Assistants assist professional staff with all aspects of program management including classroom, student support and provision of therapy services.
Specific Duties: Work with a classroom teacher in an academic support role. Collaborate with professional staff to ensure the safety of the students in all environments.
Instructional Assistants may be required to assist students with toileting and diapering. This position also requires assistance with mealtimes, hygiene including changing, and physically assisting students in the classroom (positioning students, assisting with orthotics, etc.). Experience:
- Previous experience working with children, especially those with special needs
- Knowledge of childhood development and behavior management techniques
