    Essential Job Functions:
    Comptroller and Global Financial Services Charleston (CGFS) Bureau of the Department of State (DoS) is seeking a Desktop Support Specialist to provide helpdesk support in the Global Systems Operations division, Internal Systems and Messaging unit (ISM). Internal Systems and Messaging Unit (ISM) is responsible for all desktop, server, network hardware operations and maintenance, and support of Internal Resources Management (IRM) standard operating environment software. The unit handles all issues pertaining to Microsoft Windows Server and Desktop Operating Systems, S.M.A.R.T. messaging, Microsoft Office products, and mobile computing devices (i.e., Laptops, Blackberries, and Global OpenNet (GO) Tokens.

    The Desktop Support Specialist provides 1st tier desktop PC and printer support to the customer base; follows established procedures to log trouble calls, answer trouble calls and document problems and solutions; troubleshoots existing desktop systems and printers and effect repairs and/or replacements; analyze existing software packages and make recommendations for new applications when necessary; install and configure new IT equipment; communicate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues; ability to adapt to changing priorities; perform office moves of PCs and monitors.

    Job Responsibilities:
    • Install Windows operating systems and configure PCs for network use.
    • Log trouble calls in the helpdesk ticketing systems.
    • Provide user support and troubleshooting of PC, networks, and software.
    • Configure and install network printers.
    • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues with PC communication.
    • Install and configure new IT equipment.
    • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues.
    • Adapt to changing priorities and perform office moves of PCs and monitors.
    Skills:
    Required skills:
    • A two-year degree in an Information Technology (IT) or business-related field is preferred.
    • Three (3) years’ experience supporting Microsoft (MS) desktop operating systems, including the latest versions of the MS Office suite and Outlook.
    • Experience providing desktop support.
    • Experience in computer network installation, operation, and maintenance.
    • Experience in providing user support and troubleshooting.
    • Education and certifications may be substituted for years of education.

    • Comp TIA A and Network certifications.
    • Experience with Active Directory computer network systems and operating environments.

    • Microsoft Office 365 Suite
    • Windows Server 2016 and 2019
    • Microsoft Active Directory
    • Windows 10
    • Commercial off-the-shelf software (COTS)
    Qualifications:

    Minimum Requirements:
    • A two-year degree in an Information Technology (IT) or business-related field is preferred.
    • Experience supporting Microsoft (MS) desktop operating systems including the latest versions of the MS Office suite and Outlook for e-mail is necessary with three years preferred.
    • Experience providing desktop support, experience in PC installation, operation and maintenance with two years preferred.
    • Experience with MS Desktop operating systems is preferred; experience in providing user support and troubleshooting.
    Experience, professional and technical certification programs may be substituted for years of education, based on credit hour equivalents.
    Work Schedule:
    The employee will work an 8-hour shift between the hours of 6:15 am to 6:00 pm with a non-compensated 45-minute lunch (See your Project Manager for work schedule and department policies). Additional hours may be required and must be authorized by your Project Manager and DoS Management. This is a hybrid position with 1 day teleworking and 4 days on-site.
