Responsibilities

• Functions as a certified EMT in a BLS or in the Advanced Life Support Unit, performing procedures as outlined by Act 37, PA rules and regulations, and PA DOH EMS protocols and providing quality pre-hospital care to neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
• Accepts orders from approved Medical Command physicians and promptly implements interventions. When appropriate, provides pre-hospital care according to established PA DOH EMS protocols.
• Maintains clinical knowledge and skills in order to provide quality patient care.
• Participates in the Performance Improvement Program.
• Operates, restocks and maintains vehicles to ensure a constant state of readiness.
• Assists with rescue and extrication of patients. Is able to function safely and effectively in hazardous environments to ensure stabilization and safety of patients and other personnel.
• Works with local EMS, fire and law enforcement agencies in a coordinated effort on the patient's behalf.
• When GVH EMS business office is closed, obtains information and coordinates efforts to arrange ambulance or wheelchair van transportation.
• When not performing the functions of an EMT, functions in the Department of Emergency Medicine according to the job description of the Patient Care Technician, under the direction of the charge nurse and the professional staff.
