Emergency Medical Technician responds to emergency calls for medical assistance, assesses the situation, obtains a basic medical history and physical examination of the patient, and provides emergency care at the scene and during transit to the hospital. Utilizes necessary medical equipment to treat the patient and ascertains the extent of their injuries or illness. Being an Emergency Medical Technician communicates with the medical care facility receiving the patient about the patient's condition, status, and arrival time. May require registry in NREMT. Additionally, Emergency Medical Technician requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Emergency Medical Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Position Summary:

    Responsible for providing direct care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care of patients in department, while assisting director as needed with supervisory duties.

    Essential Functions

    * Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment. Documents patient care given

    * Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.

    * Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs. Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

    * Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.

    * Provides orientation, direction, training, educational development, coaching and mentoring to staff in accordance with goals set by department director. Assists with competency verification, performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.

    * Assesses and ensures quality of services delivered. Performs quality assurance studies and assists with the implementation of quality initiatives. Assists with quality measures. Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and protocols.

    * Serves as a resource to staff, other departments and external contacts. Leads the handling and resolution of issues and complaints.

    * Determines, coordinates and supervises daily staffing assignments. Determines staffing level and assignment based on staff availability, staff abilities, census, acuity and work/patient flow.

    * Assist in development of policies. Ensures staff compliance with policies, procedures, protocols and regulations.

    * Perform timekeeping functions in Kronos

    * Provides direction and oversight to staff engaged in the mentoring process of nursing students.

    * Leads by example. Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth, teamwork and exceptional service.

    Qualifications

    Current RN license to practice in Utah

    BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC certifications
