Emergency Medical Technician responds to emergency calls for medical assistance, assesses the situation, obtains a basic medical history and physical examination of the patient, and provides emergency care at the scene and during transit to the hospital. Utilizes necessary medical equipment to treat the patient and ascertains the extent of their injuries or illness. Being an Emergency Medical Technician communicates with the medical care facility receiving the patient about the patient's condition, status, and arrival time. May require registry in NREMT. Additionally, Emergency Medical Technician requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Emergency Medical Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Responsibilities:
- Respond to calls and provide medical assistance to patients in need
- Assess the patient's condition and administer appropriate medical treatment
- Perform basic life support techniques, such as CPR and first aid
- Monitor vital signs and provide ongoing care during transportation to the hospital
- Communicate with healthcare professionals to relay patient information and receive medical instructions
- Maintain accurate records of patient care and treatment provided
Experience:
- Previous experience as an Emergency Medical Technician or similar role preferred
- Knowledge of hospital procedures and protocols
- Familiarity with anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
- Ability to assess patients' conditions and make critical decisions in high-pressure situations
- Proficient in administering medications and performing basic medical procedures
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare professionals
- Physical stamina to perform heavy lifting and maneuvering of patients
Skills:
- Excellent patient assessment skills to quickly evaluate the severity of injuries or illnesses
- Proficient in administering basic life support techniques, including CPR and first aid
- Knowledge of medical equipment operation and maintenance
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, and healthcare professionals in a compassionate manner
