Epidemiologist monitors and investigates known or suspected sources and transmission of communicable diseases. Collects, analysis, and interprets disease data using appropriate statistical and research methods. Being an Epidemiologist reviews sterilization, disinfection and waste control techniques and recommends changes as needed. Develops and coordinates effective and practical interventions and procedures to control and prevent disease in the community or facility. Additionally, Epidemiologist typically requires a master's degree of microbiology. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Epidemiologist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.     Job Description
    The University of Alabama Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine, Department of Surgery is currently recruiting faculty candidates to be considered for an open rank/open tenure faculty appointment in the Division of Transplantation. The successful candidate will be expected to meet clinical, research and teaching needs, as applicable, in the Department of Surgery. UAB has successfully completed more than 14,000 organ transplants since 1968, when we performed Alabama’s first kidney transplant. Today, our nationally ranked hospital – one of the busiest transplant centers in the nation – performs more than 400 transplants annually, including heart, lung, kidney, pancreas, liver, and intestine transplants, as well as multi-organ procedures. In addition to our focus on patient care, we also provide an environment that supports the education of health professionals and encourages advanced research to further medical science.
    The University of Alabama at Birmingham, one of three autonomous institutions within The University of Alabama System, is the only four-year, public university in the state’s largest metropolitan area. The University spans 100 blocks in the city center with over 250 buildings providing over 13 million feet of assignable space.
    For fiscal year 2021-2022 (most recent available), the University’s economic impact on the Birmingham area exceeds $12.1 billion to the state. In FY2022, UAB received over $715 million in NIH extramural grants and contracts.
