Collects, analysis, and interprets disease data using appropriate statistical and research methods. Being an Epidemiologist reviews sterilization, disinfection and waste control techniques and recommends changes as needed. Develops and coordinates effective and practical interventions and procedures to control and prevent disease in the community or facility. Additionally, Epidemiologist typically requires a master's degree of microbiology. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Epidemiologist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Senior Epidemiologist - Program Evaluation Unit

  • Riverside University Health System (RUHS), the County of Riverside's public healthcare system,  has an opportunity for a Senior Epidemiologist with the Public Health Department. The selected candidate will be responsible for the Evaluation Unit within the Epidemiology & Program Evaluation Division, which includes Public Health Department Accreditation and QI. The Senior Epidemiologist will also supervise Epidemiologists and Research Specialists assigned to the Evaluation unit.  


    This position has a 9/80 schedule, hours are 8-5:30 p.m.


    What we are looking for in candidates:

    • Strong Public Health program evaluation work experience (beyond education) 
    • Knowledge of the CDC Framework for Program Evaluation in Public Health and the American Evaluation Association’s Guiding Principles for Evaluators.
    • Ability to engage with and encourage participation from a broad range of evaluation stakeholders
    • Knowledge of various evaluation designs (e.g., non-experimental, experimental, quasi-experimental) and experience developing evaluation plans
    • Experience and demonstrated use of  mixed-method approaches to program evaluation



    • Design and carry out research studies and program evaluation plans on functions and services provided by the Public Health Department; represent the Public Health Program Chief, Epidemiology and Program Evaluation Branch at meetings within the Department and on various committees, agencies, boards, and the media.
    • Conduct, design, analyze, and prepare reports on epidemiology surveys by reviewing and analyzing available data, design applications for new data collection; assess risk of possible communicable disease hazards or epidemics; interpret data and make recommendations for procedure or departmental policy based upon assessments.
    • Develop, plan, coordinate, and implement evaluation of departmental healthcare activities for comprehensive strategic public health planning.
    • Conduct surveillance of diseases and other health conditions; design, conduct, analyze, and report on disease levels or risk levels in the community.
    • Lead in the design, implementation and operation of data systems for the monitoring of disease and other health conditions status and trends.
    • Act as technical lead over a large Epidemiology and Program Evaluation program area; provide guidance to Epidemiology Analysts, Research Specialists I/II and other data staff on study, research and evaluation design.Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in public health with emphasis in epidemiology, bio-statistics, administration, or closely related field.

    Experience: Minimum of five years in an epidemiology analyst, epidemiologist or closely related position, which included analyzing public health data, such as communicable disease, bio­ terrorism or maternal, child and adolescent health issues, conducting and evaluating outcome studies, investigative data collection and evaluation of diseases and general health conditions. (A Ph.D. or Doctor of Public Health in epidemiology from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience.)Reasonable Accommodations

    Pre-Employment
