Photography Facilities Coordinator

  • The School of Film and Photography’s Photography Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the operation and technical support of equipment checkout, gear circulation, maintenance of all professional photography equipment and spaces. The Photography Coordinator is also responsible for overseeing all chemical operations including lab safety, inventory, chemical mixing, proper disposal, proper usage, and chemical safety. The Photography Coordinator must train and supervise a work force of 15 to 25 work study/student employees ensuring all are familiar with equipment checkout policies and procedures, chemical safety protocols, classroom and lab technical support. The Photography Coordinator will report directly to the School of Film and Photography’s Technology Coordinator.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    • Oversees Photography Equipment Checkout’s daily operations, including supervision, equipment circulation and training of student employees
    • Maintains the photo studio and darkroom related spaces
    • Maintains the chemistry mixing operation, chemistry inventory, mixing and disposing of chemicals properly, chemistry data sheets, provides training to chemistry assistants/student employees, maintains and repairs mixing equipment and creates/updates chemical usage/mixing tutorials
    • Provides technical support to photography students and faculty and performs related duties as required.
    • “On-call” for managerial support evenings and weekends
    • On occasion this position may be required to work evenings/weekend shifts
    • Employee schedule creation using Homebase
    • Equipment usage tutorial creation using Adobe InDesign
    • Documentation & other duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
    • Substantial experience directly related to professional photography or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
    • 4 years of professional experience directly related to photography or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
    • Must be familiar with the operation of professional photography equipment including film cameras (4×5, 35/120mm) digital cameras (SLR, DSLR, Mirrorless) darkroom enlargers, color processors (Jobos), lighting, darkroom chemistry/chemical mixing and Epson large-format printers.
    • Demonstrative understanding of Apple operating systems as well as Capture One, Photoshop, Light Room, InDesign, and other Adobe software packages


    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
    • Demonstrative knowledge/troubleshooting & maintenance of Epson Large Format printers.
    • Demonstrated experience with Adobe InDesign.
    • Demonstrated interest in photography trends and developments as well as chemical safety practices and procedures.
    • Demonstrative knowledge in Homebase scheduling software and Connect2 inventory software.
