Interviews families to assess needs and their eligibility for assistance programs and services. Being a Family Support Counselor helps to navigate the application process and outlines the requirements and benefits of programs or services. Advises about types of counseling services available and makes referrals to service providers. Additionally, Family Support Counselor may require a bachelor's degree in human services related field. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Family Support Counselor work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the assigned Supervisor, the Family Support Counselor has responsibility for providing support services to individuals and families as identified in the designated program and/or individualized plan. Services apply to youth in and/or consumer/clients in community based programs.
Provide intensive family finding and engagement services with the ultimate goal of identifying, locating, and engaging relatives, kin, and support networks to support the permanent placement and lifelong connection needs of children and youth placed in out-of-home care. For the purposes of these services, family is not limited to biological family members, but is any adult that is willing and committed to supporting the child and family throughout services and beyond. Support can include placement, but it also includes emotional support and tangible support such as transportation, assisting with activities or visits, and a variety of other things. Each child and family’s Family Finding and Engagement will look different and will have individualized outcomes based on case plan priorities
