Interviews families to assess needs and their eligibility for assistance programs and services. Being a Family Support Counselor helps to navigate the application process and outlines the requirements and benefits of programs or services. Advises about types of counseling services available and makes referrals to service providers. Additionally, Family Support Counselor may require a bachelor's degree in human services related field. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Family Support Counselor work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     The Support Counselor  provides family-based mental health support, crisis intervention, and case management services to children and families The primary role is to provide support to children in order to allow them to learn and practice prosocial behavior, problem solving, and coping skills. Support Counselors  are members of a treatment team, and provide services almost exclusively in the community: in families' homes, group homes, foster homes, schools, etc. Responsibilities include: direct services to children and their families, completion of documentation, participation on multidisciplinary teams, providing strength-based and culturally competent services, resource linkage, and flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide non-judgmental, unconditional support to children and families
    • Provide counseling and case management services to ensure the successful transition of clients and their families to community-based resources
    • Work with their treatment team to provide crisis interventions and other mental health services as needed in client homes and in the community
    • Meet weekly with designated clients on a consistent basis to further treatment goals
    • Assist with planning for transportation arrangements for school, therapy appointments, and court hearings
    • Participate in all treatment reviews, program staff meetings, and work in coordination to participate in all functions of the Child and Family Team, including: planning meetings, assisting in designing treatment plans, and other casework duties as needed
    • Participate in individual/group supervision with the Wraparound Supervisor
    • Complete accurate and timely documentation and paperwork including, but not limited to, mental health notes, incident reports, time sheets, and mileage
    • Maintain professional behavior at all times, appropriately representing Seneca's mission
    • Establish and sustain effective channels of communication with coworkers, clients, and all internal and external stakeholders
    • Maintain a flexible schedule, which includes evenings and possible weekend days
    • Complete and attend all required trainings

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in a social service related field
    • 1 year experience in working with emotionally disturbed children in out of home care, preferred
    • Own vehicle, California driver's license, and insurance
    • Ability to work as a team player, with diverse population and demonstrates cultural competency
    • Must be organized, creative, self-motivated, detail oriented, and driven by excellence
    • Possess proficient written and verbal communication skills, including business corresponding knowledge and etiquette
    • Bilingual skills desired

    Schedule

    • Full-time
      • Monday - Friday
      • 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with some evening/weekend flexibility required

    Benefits

    • $21.63 - $24.13 per hour depending on experience
      • Additional compensation provided upon passing bilingual language proficiency exam.
