FIRE CAPTAIN manages a team of firefighters. Ensures all equipment is properly maintained and serviced. Being a FIRE CAPTAIN directs training and conditioning activities. Administers the staff work schedule to ensure adequate coverage. Additionally, FIRE CAPTAIN leads and coordinates responses to fire events, hazardous material incidents, auto accidents, and search and rescue operations. Prepares post-incident reports as required. Leads or coordinates fire safety education and inspection activities. Typically is required to pass periodic physical ability tests. May require registry in NREMT. Typically requires an associate degree in fire science. Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a manager. The FIRE CAPTAIN manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a FIRE CAPTAIN typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Fire Logistics Coordinator (FT)

  • SUMMARY OF POSITION: 
    Administers the coordination of emergency and non-emergency supplies and supports activities of the Fire Department related to support services and logistics. Primary areas of responsibility include Fire Department apparatus and equipment maintenance scheduling, oversight of purchasing equipment and supplies by department members, with support responsibilities and coordinating maintenance and repair of department facilities. This position also is responsible for managing department inventory and supply controls and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders and vendors for the provision of services related to facilities, apparatus, and equipment. 
     
    **This position is in the classified Civil Service for Fire and will have additional qualifications assessments. Once candidates are deemed qualified to move forward in the hiring process, they will be notified via e-mail to continue in the hiring process. This process can take up to 2 months to complete. 
     
    REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job.):
    • A high school diploma or GED is required.
    • 5 years of experience working in the logistics field such as warehousing, inventory, or transportation.
    • This position is subject to an extensive background investigation (drug use history, criminal convictions, etc...), which requires candidates to fill out a Personal History Statement like the one linked here.  
     
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Associates Degree in Business Administration or Project Management
    • International Society of Logistics or American Production and Inventory Control Society
    • Previous experience in local government
    • Previous experience in a municipal Fire department
