Summary/Objective
At R.I.A. Federal Credit Union, the primary focus of the Accounting Director is to improve the financial well-being of our members. This is accomplished through:

Essential Functions
- Responsible for management of all aspects of department functions ensuring the most effective, efficient, accurate, and secure processes possible.
- Oversee accurate and efficient accounting operations, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Responsible for the chart of accounts and necessary internal controls and review over the general ledger to include appropriate reconciling processes, software applications and segregation of duties.
- Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the budget, and other financial estimates, projections and plans.
- Maintain a documented system of accounting internal controls, policies and procedures.
- Oversee, process, enter and/or verify transfers of member and credit union funds both internally and externally by wires and other transfer methods. Act as back-up as needed.
- Oversee, approve and process accounts payable invoices. Determine proper general ledger accounts for invoice processing.
- Oversee daily department operations including, but not limited to: general ledger maintenance, fixed assets reporting, subledger balancing, transfers, file maintenance, etc.
- Responsible for the standard internal and external financial reporting of the credit union, including the quarterly NCUA 5300 report.
- Work closely with the CFO to ensure accounting estimates are accurate and well-supported. This will include compliance with CECL and other regulations as appropriate.
- Oversee and direct record preservation for the department/credit union as well as doing research as needed.
- Coordinate the maintenance, implementation, and refinement of accounting internal control functions.
- Ensure accounting records and reports comply with GAAP, NCUA and government regulations.
- Work with auditors, examiners, and certified public accounts, preparing necessary schedules and providing them with assistance in performing their reviews of the credit union operations.
- Plan, direct, supervise and coordinate work activities of assigned personnel.
- Exercise managerial leadership duties as it relates to staffing, development, training, coaching, motivating, performance management and disciplinary actions.
- Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends.
- Works on special projects and tasks that require higher levels of confidentiality and accounting expertise.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to spend considerable time sitting at a desk, completing work using a computer, regularly answers phone calls and interacts with employees at all levels of the organization. The employee will occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds.
Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time salaried position that generally works 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday. The Accounting Department operates 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and starting times are staggered based on job related requirements
Travel
Less than 10% travel is anticipated for this position other than some local travel in the Quad City area.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
- Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.
- Experience in a supervisory position.
- Minimum of 5 years accounting experience in a bank, credit union, or comparable environment.
- Knowledge of financial institution accounting concepts, practices, and financial reports.
- Ideal candidate will have extensive experience with complex spreadsheets.
