United Way of Broome County is a non-profit organization that fights for the health, education, and financial stability of Broome County residents. The organization works in partnership with community organizations and members to drive change that will have positive impact on the critical needs of the community.
POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT: The Fund Development and Accounts Manager is responsible for managing and creating relationships across all business and organization sectors of the community, as well as providing support for all Resource Development events, volunteer events, and other organizational activities. The position will solicit business entities to contribute resources of time, talent, and treasure to support United Way of Broome County’s (UWBC) mission and vision. The position manages a portfolio of workplace campaign accounts. By working with senior executives, the Fund Development and Accounts Manager works to increase employee participation in the UWBC fundraising campaign, increase participation in volunteer initiatives, and other events; and encourage current individual contributors to increase their investment. In addition, the Fund Development and Accounts Manager drives investments to leadership and planned-giving opportunities, as well as conducts ongoing research to identify new potential donors, corporate gifts, and workplace campaigns. The Fund Development and Accounts Manager works to identify and apply for funding opportunities to grow campaign and increase revenue.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Relationship Management
- Build relationships by meeting with individuals, stakeholders, community leaders, business executives, Human Resource specialists, etc. to discuss UWBC, the organization’s Community Commitment Plan, collect data, and solicit resources.
- Identify prospects to generate new business.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with Employee Campaign Managers (ECM) at workplaces to promote key initiatives of UWBC.
- Personally initiate and cultivate relationships that will enhance the connection and lifetime loyalty to the UWBC.
- Assist in the coordination of United Way’s annual network-wide day of service—Day of Action (June). Expand corporate participation and support.
- Present recognition awards to appropriate individuals and local businesses.
- Align individual and corporate philanthropic interests with UWBC community impact and volunteer initiatives.
- Positively represent UWBC at community functions and partner events to develop relationships and increase revenue.
- Engage in job-related travel to meet with business representatives, leaders, and individuals, as well as attend meetings, conferences, and events.
- Under the direction of the Director of Marketing, increase capacity and engagement of the Campaign Cabinet by developing a comprehensive written plan that includes targets for cabinet recruitment, timelines, and benchmarks well in advance of each year’s campaign.
- Under the direction of the Resource Development Director, manage the Employee Campaign Manager (ECM) process by working with businesses to identify candidates to coordinate workplace campaigns with UWBC.
- Coordinate partner agency speakers at employee meetings to illustrate the values and relationship of Funded Community Partners and UWBC.
- Assist in promoting and supporting United Way programs and initiatives as deemed necessary by the Director of Resource Development.
Fund Development
- Implement a sustainable process for fund development to ensure long-term revenue growth.
- Identify non-traditional revenue streams such as grants, sponsorships, and individual planned giving.
- Identify and secure sponsorship funding from businesses and individuals for annual events, volunteer initiatives, and community impact initiatives.
- Research and identify new sources of campaign revenue through government and private funding prospects. Cultivate prospects and establish relationships with existing funders.
- Develop relationships in the community and pursue opportunities for joint resource development.
- In partnership with the Community Initiatives and Fund Development Associate and the finance team, develop funding proposals; grant applications; and reports to funders that will support community investments through the Annual Community Campaign.
Account Management
- Frequently update and maintain donor information in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool and database for specific business sectors and individual accounts, including memorializing specific account history.
- Assist and support the direct mail process for soliciting individuals and small business supporters.
- Develop and maintain a business plan for performance tracking of each campaign account, individual, and prospect group.
- Retrieve data from the campaign database and assemble campaign and direct mail materials for use in internal and external meetings.
- Work jointly with the Marketing and Communications Director and the Resource Development Director to process recognition award certificates and thank you letters to the management and employees of organizations that ran an employee workplace campaign.
- Provide relevant historical donor data to assist the Campaign Cabinet in setting the annual campaign goal.
- Research and analyze leadership giving and formally develop a leadership giving program.
- Maintain Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool and database for all corresponding campaigns. Attend trainings, including those related to ANDAR and E-Pledge.
- Work with the Director of Resource Development, UWBC board members, Campaign Chair, and Campaign Cabinet to implement new and creative strategies for workplace campaigns.
Internal and External Interaction Management
- Establish and maintain relationships with UWBC staff, volunteers, contributors, Funded Community Partners, and members of the organization’s Board of Directors to ensure internal and external customer satisfaction.
- In collaboration with the marketing team, create a monthly e-newsletter for donors.
- Serve as Resource Development Department liaison to fellow UWBC staff; provide regular updates on department activities and events.
- Participate in meetings and training programs to enhance knowledge and build stronger skills for promoting UWBC initiatives and products. Participate in UWBC programs and events as directed.
- Attend mandatory organizational, departmental, and committee meetings and trainings as directed.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of all UWBC operations.
- Interact internally with all levels of staff, as well as externally with donors, staff members of profit and not-for-profit businesses and government agencies, the general public, community leaders, and stakeholders.
- Other duties as deemed necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates for the position will possess the following:
Education and Experience Required:
- Master’s Degree preferred; Bachelor’s degree accepted with a minimum of 3 years successful experience with United Way or similar field with a concentration on fundraising and knowledge of the non-profit philanthropic landscape
- Experience with fund development plans and implementation, as well as with grant research and development process
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; flexibility and multi-tasking skills necessary
- Proven ability working with individuals of diverse social and economic backgrounds
- Experience working with a volunteer board and committee structure and knowledge of how to use them most effectively in fund development
- Strong public speaking, organizational, and customer relationship skills
- Ability to work with and interpret financial and statistical data
- Knowledge and expertise working in an integrated system platform and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience working with database software
- Proven ability to create and execute successful business plans

HOURS: This is a full-time non-exempt position. The hours are Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Evening and weekend hours may be required, as needed for community events and meetings.
