Groundskeeper cuts and maintains lawns and grass. Rakes leaves and cares for plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs. Being a Groundskeeper determines the appropriate plants or shrubs for walkways or garden areas. Provides grounds maintenance in all seasons. Additionally, Groundskeeper is responsible for snow and dirt removal. Keeps the grounds and environment of a facility in a clean, attractive, orderly, safe, and healthy condition. Operates light trucks and assorted power equipment. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance on gardening and grounds equipment. May require horticultural training. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Groundskeeper works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. JOB TITLE: Groundskeeper
MAIN FUNCTION: Responsible for the upkeep of grounds at Preswick Glen. Cuts grass, trims hedges and trees, plants flowers, maintains flower beds, policies grounds of trash and debris.
REPORTS TO: Director of Building Services or designee
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
EDUCATION: Preferable graduate of trade school or equivalent experience.
CONTACTS: Daily with supervisors, employees, Meadows tenants, residents, and nursing. Intermittently with tradesmen and suppliers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stands, bends, walks most of the day, pushes, carries, lifts medium to heavy weights. Works in strained positions. Must be able to climb and work off ladders. Good Communication skills are essential when using two way radios. Subject to unpleasant odors. Job requires great physical strength.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposed to dire, dust, grease, noise, temperature extremes, odors from garbage, sewers, cleaning and maintenance chemicals, paints, paint thinners and chemicals from grounds. Occasionally required to work odd hours in case of emergency. Subject to 24 hour call in.
JOB HAZARDS: Exposed to falls, cuts, strains, bruises, abrasions, electrical shock, infections, infectious waste and inclement weather.
