Head Coach (Minor Sport) oversees all activities of a minor athletic team. Plans and directs training of student athletes, and assesses individuals' abilities and skill level to determine appropriate team position. Being a Head Coach (Minor Sport) analyzes opposition team performance and capabilities and determines game strategy. Assists players in reaching highest athletic potential possible through athletic training and leadership skills. Additionally, Head Coach (Minor Sport) must be familiar with NCAA rules and regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree in the related area. Typically reports to a institutional officer. Head Coach (Minor Sport) is a specialist on complex technical and business matters. Work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group. Rutgers University Women’s Rugby Club is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable head coach to join our team beginning in September 2024. We are a Division II club team that competes in the Tri-State Rugby conference. In the fall, our 15s season runs from September to early November. In the spring, our 7s season runs from the end of January/beginning of February until mid/late April.
Coach Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead practice alongside our assistant coach. 2 practices per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and 1 game per weekend
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of players, providing instruction and feedback
- Ensure safety of players at all times
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect
Coach Requirements and Qualifications
- World Rugby Level 1 Coach Certification (Level 2 preferred)
- At least 2 years coaching experience with youth and/or collegiate athletes
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of rugby rules and regulations
- Able to attend practices during the week and games on weekends
Compensation: $1,000-1,500 stipend for the year.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $1,500.00 per year
