Health Educator is responsible for developing and designing health education programs meant to increase community awareness and knowledge. Conducts needs assessments and keeps up-to-date on changes in health care technology to keep program material current. Being a Health Educator develops, coordinates, and disseminates educational resources and materials. May provide health education outreach and consultation. Additionally, Health Educator requires a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Health Educator work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Cherry Health AmeriCorps is a health-focused AmeriCorps program located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This long-standing program is a recipient of the new Public Health AmeriCorps funding, forming a partnership between AmeriCorps and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The focus of Cherry Health AmeriCorps is to decrease health disparities in underserved communities by providing evidence-based health education, Medicaid enrollment assistance, and supportive services to bridge gaps is health care. Cherry Health is the largest Federally Qualified Health Center in Michigan, with members serving in the greater Grand Rapids area.
Cherry Health AmeriCorps provides a diverse and engaging team environment through monthly team meetings and service projects. Members serving above 900 hours receive Community Health Worker training. All members receive Public Health Foundations training, as well professional and personal development to prepare members for future educational and career goals. Monthly service projects at local non-profits give members the opportunity to positively impact the community above and beyond their service assignments and expand networking opportunities. Members are encouraged to take on leadership roles within the team.
