    Position Purpose

    Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Director of External Communications is primarily responsible for the coordination, developing and maintaining relationships with members of the media, developing and maintaining ORH brand guidance, ensuring effective communication strategies through traditional media, e-mail marketing and social media campaigns and implementation and oversight of ORH in person and virtual education programing, including the ORH annual conference.

    Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

    • Manages the ORH website, ORH Learning Management System, and ORH events pages
    • Assists in the development of the ORH external communication content, including newsletter, press releases, blog posts, website content and marketing materials
    • Develop and maintain a strong social media presence across social media platforms to engage Associates and stakeholders, share content, and respond to inquiries and comments.
    • Develops and maintains ORH brand identity, ensuring consistency in messaging across all external communication challenges. Supports staff in raising brand awareness.
    • Assists ORH in planning and executing outreach opportunities such as exhibit tables, appropriate sponsorships, and event participation
    • Manage relationships with journalists, reporters, editors, and media outlets.
    • Plans, executes and evaluates training opportunities, including in person trainings, webinars, and posting content to the ORH online learning management system
    • Maintains appropriate records associated with and ensures compliance when offering Continuing Education Credits and Required Clock Hours for appropriate trainings
    • Takes a leadership role in the planning and coordination of the ORH annual conference and ORH annual meeting
    • Creates and maintains tools and resources to assist ORH Associates in using available ORH resources include RHOADs platform, outcomes tools, housing locator and others
    • Completes other projects and tasks as directed or assigned.

    • Work requires proficiency with Microsoft Office products and Outlook and the ability to acquire proficiency with other software applications, as needed.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree is required, with area of study in communications, public relation, writing, or similar field preferred. At least three (3) years of professional work experience in communications, marketing, or external relations is necessary. At least one (1) year professional experience in editing and updating websites is a plus. At least one (1) year of professional work experience planning and executing events is a plus. Experience in recording and editing video is a plus. Experience in working in a non-profit setting a plus.

    Reporting Relationship

    This role does not have direct reports but effective collaboration with co-workers, members and external contacts is a critical success factor.
