Summit Health, Safety, and Industrial Hygiene Services (www.summithsih.com) is seeking a project-based, full-time Certified Industrial Hygienist for a project starting onsite immediately and ending the first week of March, 2025 located near Redding, California. Candidates who do not possess a CIH certification will not be considered for this position.
This is a sub-contractor position (The CIH will need an LLC and business insurance) and we will pay $100.00 per hour for onsite support and $150.00 per hour for any work exceeding 40 hours and include a hotel or project apartment, per-diem, mobilization and demobilization airplane ticket, and a rental vehicle. The individual must provide their own laptop and cell phone.
Work is anticipated to be 40-80 hours per week as needed and the CIH must be onsite for any needed support including construction activities, this is not an office-based position.
This position will be fully responsible for Industrial Hygiene and Safety for the project and must function with a high degree of autonomy. The position will involve:
· Assist in development of the rescue/recovery plan
· Establish work place exposure assessments in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and standard industrial hygiene practices to ensure personnel exposures are below regulated levels
· Review and sign the Emissions Monitoring, Waste Characterization, Handling, and Disposal Plans prior to submission
· Be onsite during ventilation installations; during all construction activities; to perform monitoring and reporting; and to confirm that the work is being performed in accordance with the submitted plans
· Review and sign the Written Compliance Program for Worker Protection, Emissions Monitoring Plan, Waste Characterization, Handling and Disposal Plan, Heavy Metal Exposure Certifications and Test Results, Working Level Test Results, Post-Construction Test Results, and Certificate of disposal
· Conduct and/or coordinate and review and sign all background sampling, surface sampling, waste stream sampling, personal exposure monitoring, area air monitoring, peripheral air monitoring, and clean up monitoring
· Conduct functional testing of engineering controls, critical barriers, containments and secondary containments
· Correct unsafe acts, stop work, prevent exposures, control contamination, verify and evaluate and recommend engineering controls, etc.
· Conduct exposure assessments to select or verify personal protective equipment or respiratory protection inside and outside containments
· Prepare detailed monthly CIH inspection reports
· Attend the Safety Program Review Meeting
· Assist the Onsite Supervisor in implementing Hazardous Materials safety and health requirements during the performance of the required work
· Provide support and be available for emergencies
· Direct air monitoring
· Project safety management and safety performance oversight of contractors, subcontractors, and employees
· Written safety/IH program development, implementation, updates, and compliance including site specific safety programs
· Other industrial hygiene and safety duties as needed.
This individual must have significant experience in OSHA programs, field support, instrumentation, planning and executing exposure assessments and interpreting results, and have a strong ability to use Microsoft software. This individual should be well versed in editing and writing documents.
A bachelor’s degree is required in Industrial Hygiene or a similar technical field and a minimum of six years of professional industrial hygiene experience is required. A graduate degree is preferred and a CIH certification is required for this position. Candidates who do not possess a CIH certification will not be considered for this position.
