The Instructional Designer II conducts skill assessments and collects input to identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Designs and develops training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Being an Instructional Designer II develops curricula supporting defined competency models or skill frameworks. Consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. In addition, Instructional Designer II writes and edits outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Evaluates the software or collaboration tools to be selected for training. Establishes metrics to use to evaluate training effectiveness. May collaborate with vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. May coach trainers. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Being an Instructional Designer II occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     As an Instructional Designer at Breeze Airways, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and implementing curriculum materials aimed at preparing flight attendants for their roles at Breeze Airways. Your expertise will be instrumental in creating engaging and effective learning experiences that align with the strategic objectives and regulatory requirements of the airline. You will contribute to comprehensive training programs that ensure team members are equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and professionalism to excel in their roles, deliver exceptional service, and ensure Guest safety. This position will liaise directly with program owners, instructors, and leaders within the Inflight Training department and will primarily be responsible for developing training and curriculum geared to the flight attendant group.

    This position is hybrid with an option to work from home 1-2 days per week. Some travel required for field research. Reports to Breeze HQ in SLC. Must reside in Utah.

    Here’s what you’ll do

    Design and Develop Training Programs:

    • Collaborate with peers, subject matter experts (SMEs) and stakeholders, including outside agencies (FAA/TSA), to analyze training needs and objectives
    • Develop training content and materials, including e-learning modules, instructor-led training materials, job aids, and assessments
    • Align curriculum with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and Company policies using company and industry-standard authoring tools and technologies.

    Content Creation and Curriculum Development:

    • Curate, create and organize content for new hire orientation, job-specific training, compliance training, and ongoing professional development.
    • Develop comprehensive training curricula that address the needs of various team member roles and career paths within the airline.
    • Ensure content accuracy, relevance, and compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
    • Develop engaging, informative, and interactive learning materials, including lesson plans, presentations, facilitator guides, visual aids, and other multimedia resources as needed
    • Create and edit video content demonstrating Flight Attendant processes and emergency procedures

    Technology Integration and Innovation:

    • Explore innovative learning technologies and tools to enhance training delivery and effectiveness.
    • Leverage multimedia elements, simulations, and gamification techniques to create immersive and impactful learning experiences.
    • Collaborate with the Learning Management System (LMS) administrator to optimize the delivery, tracking, and evaluation of training programs.

    Project Management and Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Manage multiple instructional design projects simultaneously, adhering to project timelines and budget constraints.
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, program owners, and SMEs to gather requirements, provide progress updates, and address feedback.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Training, HR, Operations, and Safety, to ensure alignment of training initiatives with organizational goals.

    Evaluation and Continuous Improvement:

    • Conduct thorough audits and revisions of existing curriculum materials to ensure accuracy, relevance, and Update content as necessary to reflect changes in regulations, procedures, and best practices.
    • Implement evaluation strategies, such as pre- and post-training assessments and learner feedback surveys, to measure the effectiveness of training programs.
    • Analyze training metrics and performance data to identify areas for improvement and make recommendations for program enhancements.
    • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in instructional design and adult learning theory. Proactively identify opportunities for enhancing training programs and propose innovative solutions.

    Training Delivery Support:

    • Provide support to instructors by offering guidance on curriculum implementation, facilitating train-the-trainer sessions, and conducting evaluations to assess the effectiveness of training delivery.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • 2 years' experience in instructional design and/or curriculum development for adult learning.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Human Resources Development, or a related field, or equivalent work experience in lieu of this degree.
    • Solid understanding of instructional design and performance improvement concepts, design frameworks (ADDIE, Kirkpatrick), and adult learning theory.
    • Experience developing courseware in curriculum design software to current airline industry and adult learning
    • Ability to communicate kindly and effectively with stakeholders and in an engaging and motivating manner to adult learning audiences of all sizes.
    • Experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
    • High performance orientation, ability to take direction, work well under pressure, prioritize projects, meet deadlines, work autonomously, and maintain flexibility.
    • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to create clear, concise, and engaging instructional content.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess training needs and develop effective learning solutions.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
    • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality training materials that meet regulatory requirements and organizational objectives.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 2 years Flight Attendant experience.
    • 2 years’ experience in curriculum design and development in the aviation
    • Master’s degree in Instructional design, Education, Human Resources Development, Human Capital Development, or related field.
    • Proficiency in CFRs, 8900 Guidance and other regulations relating to the training of Flight
    • Experience with curriculum design software (Articulate, Adobe 360) and Learning Management Systems (CPaT and Workday Learning is a plus!)
    • Experience using AI in Instructional Design
    • Solid understanding of instructional design frameworks (ADDIE/SAM, Gagne’s 9, Kemp, Backward, Constructivist), and application of design thinking, and adult learning
    • Experience developing course objectives, desired outcomes, performance metrics, and lesson rubrics
    • Experience designing metrics and evaluation criteria consistent with Kirkpatrick’s 5 Levels of evaluation or Phillips ROI Methodology
