Labor Relations Director directs and oversees a company's labor relations programs, policies, and procedures. Establishes and maintains satisfactory labor-management relations, interprets the collective bargaining agreements, administers grievance procedures including arbitrations, and assists all levels of management on labor matters. Being a Labor Relations Director requires a bachelor's degree in a related area. Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Additionally, Labor Relations Director typically reports to top management. The Labor Relations Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Labor Relations Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     United States Steel Corporation is actively seeking a Labor Relations Representative. Labor Relations is a key function within our Employee Relations organization. The position is responsible for administering the labor agreement, counseling managers, and resolving complaints and grievances with union officials. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining productive business relationships with management and local union leadership. The position is located at our Alabama location. Relocation will be considered.

    The Representative will be responsible for various activities including:
    • Interpret the Basic Labor Agreement (BLA) and formulate local strategic positions. 
    • Administer the grievance procedure: investigate, hold meetings with Union officials, draft and maintain records. 
    • Research, analysis, and appropriate application of arbitration precedent. 
    • Negotiate settlements as appropriate. 
    • Enforce corporate policies and rules. 
    • Ensure proper use of progressive discipline for Union represented employees. 
    • Ensure compliance with contracting out provisions.
    • Prepare and present cases for arbitration. 
    • Act as primary on-site official contact/resource for all outside legal and litigation issues.
    • Unemployment compensation claims.
    • Conduct investigations and prepare detailed responses.
    • Ensure compliance with all federal and state laws and regulatory agencies (OFCCP, EEOC).
    • Counsel and train management on their rights and obligations.
    • Incentive administration, maintenance, and auditing. 
    • Labor and Overtime Control. 
    • Manpower tracking, reporting, and analysis.
    • Assist Human Resources as needed.

    Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree in labor Relations or related field and 3 years of relevant experience OR Juris Doctor degree with a passion for labor relations.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly articulate company’s position both orally and in writing.
    • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
    • Willingness to meet aggressive deadlines.
