    Why Work with Us?

This is the part where most job descriptions jump into the responsibilities and requirements for the role being posted - and we'll get there shortly! But we like to start with the why instead of the what.

We focus on projects within the educational ecosystem, from Pre-K through Higher Education and spaces in our community that support lifelong learning. Our team of educational planners, architects, and engineers get to work on a wide range of project types for a diverse set of clients, and we're proud of the impact that our work has on the lives and trajectories of students throughout the Midwest. Will you join us?

    • Participate with multiple teams on a variety of project types and scales.
    • Pursue growth in GMB's core markets, your technical knowledge, design capabilities, leadership skills and successful client interaction.

LA Team Statement: We are committed to designing environments that enhance the human experience. We recognize the importance of play and learning in shaping the future of our communities. Our designs prioritize experiences that help people understand the natural world and their place in it. We also understand the importance of collaboration and its role in our project work. We actively engage with a variety of disciplines, stakeholders and community members to develop innovative and effective solutions. Our team is dedicated to designing spaces that promote play, learning, stewardship and collaboration and believe that by designing diverse environments that support these values, we can create a better future for the communities and students we engage with!

What type of knowledge do I need to succeed in this role?

More than a specific degree and exact number of years of experience, we're most excited about what kind of knowledge you bring. For this role, we are seeking someone with wide-ranging experience who uses professional concepts to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.

Some components that may help indicate you are at this knowledge milestone include more tangible items like:

    • Strong skills in graphics, design, and communication
    • Excellent time management skills and a thorough understanding of task assignment, scheduling, budgeting and the efficient use of resources.
    • Ability to lead and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
    • Creative designer with a passion for quality and ability to lead exceptional client service
    • Proficiency in relevant design/drafting software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Lumion, Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)

What might set you apart from other candidates?

    • A proven team player that enjoys a collaborative work environment
    • Motivated by building relationships with both fellow employees and future clients

Your role as a teammate will have a direct impact on the company's actions and result in a share in its profits.

Finally, at GMB we embrace a flexible workplace that empowers each person to decide where and how they work best. Our inclusive, people-first culture encourages teams to collaborate, communicate and find fulfillment personally and professionally, regardless of location or schedule.
