Overview:
The Virginia Beach Rescue Squad Foundation (VBRSF) is committed to ensuring a vital and independent volunteer rescue squad system in the City of Virginia Beach. It is a 501c3 nonprofit organization seeking a Project Specialist. Successful applicants for this position are expected to be excellent team players. Customer services skills must be sharp, and the demeanor must be friendly, professional, and attentive. The Project Specialist position reports directly to the Director of Programs and Development and is responsible for assisting VBRSF Staff with the day-to-day operations of the program and development/fundraising activities. The duties consist of but are not limited to seeing projects through from beginning to end with autonomy, completing tasks and errands in preparation for events and projects, administrative duties, stakeholder relations, and general assistance to the VBRSF staff. The Project Specialist is expected to be flexible, work successfully with change, and reflect a high-quality customer-service attitude.
Compensation and Hours:
$45-48K annually, depending on experience. Full-time, Exempt position paid hourly, with benefits to include health and dental insurance, paid holiday and paid time off offerings.
Varied work week including evenings and weekends, dependent on events and project dates.
Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Programs and Development, the incumbent has responsibility to:
· Create and maintain a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive environment in event surroundings and the general environment.
· Assists with event management duties in and around the event spaces prior to and during events which include: the EMS Appreciation Family Festival, program events such as Rush The Squads, the VB Rescue Family Holiday Event, and the Holiday Boat Parade of Lights.
· Works directly with the VBRSF Staff before and during events to ensure facilitation of event.
· Prepare room arrangements, setup registration area, assist with check-in/check-out process, etc.
· Research community outreach opportunities and book Foundation leadership to present to local civic groups, business and at community events to promote VB Rescue / Foundation.
· Work to coordinate various programs working in tandem with and in support of Rescue Council (i.e. the Junior Rescue program).
· Assist the Executive Director as needed with projects and activities.
· Perform other tasks and projects with VBRSF Staff as assigned by the project supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Must attend and participate in mandatory event and planning meetings as required.
· Ability to work a varied schedule, which may include a significant number of nights and weekends. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel. Ability to use Canva and other graphic design programs a plus.

· Ability to lead peers while working alongside them to accomplish tasks in the most efficient manner possible.
· Ability to provide concise, clear and accurate verbal and written communication to a diverse public and staff.
· Demonstrated skill in working in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing work assignments, coordinating many tasks, and completing assignments with strict attention to detail.
· Demonstrated experience in consistently providing excellent customer service.
· Ability to work in a diverse environment with rescue squad members, City personnel, the public, donors and board members.
· Self-motivated and able to work independently with nominal supervision.
· Excellent time management, communication, administrative, organizational, and customer service skills.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality.
· Proficient use of basic computer applications.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, and weekends.
· Ability to provide own reliable transportation. Mileage for work trips will be reimbursed by Foundation.
Physical Requirements:
· Valid driver's license.
· Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crawl, crouch and climb for extended periods.
· Corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
· Frequent and repeated lifting and moving of furniture and equipment.
· Ability to lift and move objects with weight up to 35 lbs. (tables, chairs, furniture carts, etc.)
