POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Communications & Marketing Coordinator, the Marketing Assistant is responsible for providing support to the Community Affairs department by helping promote all the District has to offer, both internally and externally. The Marketing Assistant will help implement marketing strategies, develop and execute marketing campaigns, write articles and social media posts, edit the District website and various social media channels. Duties include a mix of communication, writing, graphic design, photography, videography, presentation development and report generation. The Marketing Assistant will also assist with revenue and sponsorship generation.

ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES and FUNCTIONS to be performed with or without reasonable accommodation

• Researches, writes and designs informational and promotional materials, including newsletter articles, brochures, fact sheets, display advertisements, signs, web and social media content, and presentations.
• Creates content, provides ideas, and helps manage District’s social media accounts, website and other communications.
• Ensures accuracy and consistency of content, and follows both Associated Press (AP) and internal style guidelines.
• Creates and maintains digital content and marketing collateral.
• Works to increase social media engagement to bring greater awareness to the District’s conservation, education and recreation efforts.
• Photographs special events, meetings, staff events and nature programs for use in various internal and external marketing materials.
• Generates sponsorships for nature programs, special events and other areas, as assigned.
• Represents the District and/or Community Affairs at meetings and special events, including answering policy, program and event-related inquiries, and networks with other organizations.
• Performs responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
• Promotes positive morale among the team and within the District.
• Works irregular hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays for special-event coverage.
• Obtains and maintains all required licenses and certifications.
• Possesses and maintains a valid and current Illinois Driver’s License free from suspension or revocation during term of employment; must maintain insurability with the District’s fleet insurance carrier.
• Performs the job safely and in compliance with District policies, procedures, work and safety rules, and the Employee Handbook.
• Establishes and maintains positive relationships with the community, commissioners, staff and patrons.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional duties and functions may be essential.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, advertising or a closely related field
• Two to four years’ experience in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or advertising, and previous experience in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, advertising or a closely related field, preferred.
• Experience with a conservation agency a plus.
• Certifications/Licenses to be obtained within one year of employment: CPR/1st AID/AED.
