Materials Handling Supervisor supervises and coordinates the work of employees who load and unload material within a warehouse or storage facility. Processes orders from requisitions and dispenses items from stock. Being a Materials Handling Supervisor oversees the utilization of hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, conveyors, or other handling equipment to move material to and from aircraft, trucks or trains and within the storage facility. Prepares work schedules, assigns work, and oversees the work product. Additionally, Materials Handling Supervisor ensures procedures are according to specifications and that resources are used effectively and work schedules and targets are met. May assist in inventory of stock and stock rotation. Enters information into a computerized system to maintain up-to-date stock records, retrieve stored data, or respond to inquiries about inventory levels or delivery schedules. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Materials Handling Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. Thorough knowledge of functional area under supervision. General Responsibilities | Receive all supplies, materials and equipment delivered to the central receiving dock and delivers them as directed throughout the college. Perform related record keeping and clerical work. Pick up and deliver internal and U.S. mail to and from locations throughout the college's main campus and the Laurel College Center. Sort both internal and external mail. Pick up and deliver to the Columbia U.S. Post Office. Operate computerized mail machines. Deliver print shop jobs, move supplies and materials from various campus locations and deliver as assigned. |
Work Performed | * Deliver mail to and pick up mail from campus locations twice per day. * Sort both internal and U.S. mail * Deliver print shop jobs, move supplies and materials as needed. * Deliver bulk schedules and catalogs * Check and process bulk mail to the postal service * Perform related clerical work. * Receive and deliver U.P.S., Fedex, Office Depot and etc. deliveries and perform related record keeping work. * Deliver mail to and pick up from the U.S. Post Office daily. * Prepare outgoing mail and other outgoing shipments. * Receive supplies, materials and equipment on the receiving dock, perform related clerical work and deliver to assigned locations in the college. * Perform other related duties as required. |

Working Conditions | Extreme weather conditions due to operating the receiving dock and picking up and delivering mail to the Postal Office and to campus sites in all kinds of weather. Lifting up to 50 pounds from the ground up to waist high and stacking on a cart 8" off the ground. Driving college vehicle in heavy traffic. Work schedule is 40 hours a week. |
