Mechanical Engineering Manager manages a team of mechanical engineers designing parts, engines, tools, or other mechanical equipment and industrial processes. Designs, scopes, and develops new mechanical engineering initiatives and projects, and manages them through their life cycles. Being a Mechanical Engineering Manager helps establish programs to support training, process improvements, and the creation and maintenance of best practices and protocols. Interfaces with other departments to identify new potential products and projects. Additionally, Mechanical Engineering Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Mechanical Engineering Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Mechanical Engineering Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years of experience managing professional staff who manage construction or renovations projects and project budgets with a value of $1M or higher.
- Five or more years of experience managing construction or renovation projects from programming, design, construction, to project close out in a correctional or industrial environment.
- Two or more years of experience developing a capital improvement plan for a large scale correctional, university, or industrial environment.
- Sound understanding of state purchasing rules and regulations.
Comments/ Notes:
- This position is based in Forsyth at SOSTC Headquarters and requires a minimum of 50% of the work week in Forsyth. The remainder of the work week is spent in the field on project site visits.
- This position serves as the Manager 2 who manages a team of Project Managers in the Design and Development unit who manage multiple capital improvement projects from inception, design, construction, to completion which includes budget tracking and purchasing responsibilities.
