    The Medical Records Custodian is responsible for the management, maintenance, and protection of patient medical records in a healthcare facility. This position requires a thorough understanding of federal and state laws and regulations related to medical recordkeeping, as well as experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Organize and maintain patient medical records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
    • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of medical records, including clinical documentation, diagnostic test results, and other relevant information.
    • Retrieve medical records as needed for patient care, research, and legal purposes.
    • Protect the privacy and confidentiality of patient health information in compliance with HIPAA regulations
    • Respond to requests for medical records from patients, healthcare providers, and other authorized parties in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Process and track medical record requests and maintain records of disclosures.
    • Stay up-to-date with changes in medical recordkeeping regulations and technology.

    Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree in health information management or related field preferred.
    • Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information. Administrator (RHIA) preferred experience in medical recordkeeping, preferably in a healthcare setting preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology preferred.
    • Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and other healthcare information technology preferred.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a healthcare environment.
    • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
