Medical Records Coding Manager supervises and trains a team of medical coders to ensure medical records are coded with accuracy and completeness. Ensures medical records coding operations follow the latest guidelines and compliance standards. Being a Medical Records Coding Manager maintains required documentation and confidentiality of patient records. Implements processes for coding operations that support the needs of other healthcare partners. Additionally, Medical Records Coding Manager develops and maintains up-to-date knowledge of the latest ICD and CPT coding versions and ensures coders receive updates and training on classification or guideline changes. Is a certified medical coder and the exact type of coding certification may vary based on the clinical setting or a medical specialty focus. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, a related field, or equivalent. Depending on the setting typically requires the Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification. May additionally have the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Medical Records Coding Manager supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions.     *This is a work from home position that requires the selected candidate to have a permanent address and live in New Mexico or be willing to relocate to New Mexico*

    Minimum $56,617- Midpoint $70,782*

    *Salary is determined based on years of total relevant experience.

    *Salary is based on 1.0 FTE (full time equivalent) or 40 hours per week. Less than 40 hours/week will be prorated and adjusted to the appropriate FTE.

    Summary

    Reporting to Manager, Medical Coding, responsible for the quarterly medical coding audits and monthly educational sessions for the UNM Medical Group, Inc., Medical Coding Analysts. Works closely with the Coding Supervisors, Manager and Director to identify areas and make recommendations for educational improvement for both coding staff and medical providers as needed.

    Minimum Job Requirements for a Medical Coding Analyst Auditor - Educator:

    High school diploma or GED with 2 years directly related experience. Must be a CPC (Certified Professional Coder) and CPMA (Certified Professional Medical Auditor) or certificate eligible to pass CPMA within 6 months of employment. Completed degree from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

    Verification of education and licensure (if applicable) will be required if selected for hire.

    Duties and Responsibilities for a Medical Coding Analyst Auditor - Educator:

    1. Assesses the auditing and medical coding educational needs of professional fee Medical Coding Analysts and develops programs and researches educational resources to meet those needs.
    2. Develops training materials and medical coding aids for use by MCAs in daily work.
    3. Responsible for performing medical coding audits for all UNMMG professional fee coding staff to assure coding accuracy and prepares reports and observations.
    4. Responsible for follow-up feedback and working in conjunction with Medical Coding Leadership to improve coder accuracy when inappropriate coding patterns are identified and accuracy goal is not met.
    5. Responsible for working in conjunction with Medical Coding Leadership in providing 1:1 and/or group educational coding sessions for MCA and UNMMG medical providers.
    6. Serves as a TES/Claims Manager edit resource to ensure medical coding edits are as current as possible and meet professional documentation and medical coding standards; reports and revises TES Edit information when inaccurate.
    7. Reviews and analyzes CMS, Federal, State, and other billing guidance agencies to ensure Medical Coding Department guidelines are accurate and kept up-to-date to reflect any changes or updates that are utilized by medical coding staff.
    8. Assists Medical Coding Management in the formulation of the annual work plan to capture risks in audit plan.
    9. Provides “On Boarding” education and training of all newly hired Medical Coding Analysts.

    10. Ensures strict confidentiality of medical and financial records.

    11. Attends medical coding conferences, workshops and in-house sessions to receive updated coding and auditing information and changes to regulations.

    12. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.
