Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the supervision and direction of the department director, the position provides scheduling support to all areas of the operating room department. The OR Scheduler is expected to adhere to applicable Lewis-Gale Medical Center policies and procedures and to LewisGale Medical Center value statements and commitment to excellence standards.

• Schedules cases, runs reports and inputs data on computer with minimal error. Notifies appropriate staff/physicians of any schedule changes.
• Completes charges accurately and in a timely manner. Troubleshoots staff questions/problems with intraoperative screens or charging issues. Follows up on a continual basis on all charges that are outstanding. Works with staff to quickly reconcile deficiencies.
• Provides daily and monthly reports of statistical data as required.
• Completes correspondences and documents for all responsible areas, takes minutes at departmental meetings. Provides miscellaneous clerical support as needed.
• Assists patients, visitors, other departments, coworkers and physicians as necessary; exhibits excellent customer relations. Shows courtesy, compassion and respect. Answers telephone and reports all messages promptly, using effective telephone etiquette.
• Demonstrates the ability to assess the needs of others and refer these needs to the appropriate nursing personnel. Uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment and professional attitude at all times when relating with patient, families and co-workers.
• Maintains departmental records, files and charts to meet regulatory standards and hospital policy.

Experience

• 1 year of healthcare experience preferred
• BLS Certification
