Mental Health Technician observes and assists assigned mental health patients and helps with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and to ensure the safety of patents and staff. Being a Mental Health Technician attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings. Records information about patients including vital signs, weight, and demeanor. Additionally, Mental Health Technician may communicate with patients family as needed. Typically requires an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a registered nurse (rn) or other supervisor. The Mental Health Technician works under moderate supervision.     Job Description and Eligibility:

    Under the general direction of the Clinical Director and Executive Director, this position provides individual, family and group counseling services, with an emphasis on family treatment. The Clinician is responsible for providing clinical direction to YAS staff and treatment team members, maintaining a positive working relationship with team members. In addition, the Clinician is responsible for providing consultation and education to staff and treatment team members.

    The Clinician is responsible for maintaining timeliness of all clinical documents, for effectiveness of treatment and ensuring that the treatment plan and all clinical documents are up-to-date. This position is responsible for addendums to the treatment plans and assessments. This includes integration of psychiatric assessments and notes, as well as the monitoring of all services as a result of the treatment plan. This position is responsible for working cooperatively within the assigned program, other YAS programs and community programs.

    The Clinician is responsible for completing documentation and scheduling services in accordance with agency policies and procedures. The Clinician is also responsible for collaborating with other Program Coordinators on clinical training issues for agency staff. This position must know and abide by the YAS standard of conduct, must remain current in the field, and must meet professional standards in the performance of duties.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Master’s degree in psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, and/or closely related field. Licensed to practice in the state of Alaska or eligible for licensure within six months. Prior experience working with families and/or group therapy practices preferred. Salary DOE/negotiable.
