Merchandise Buyer selects merchandise for order, places order, and stays involved in inventory distribution. Reviews success of previous orders to determine extent to which inventory should be replenished. Being a Merchandise Buyer researches new trends or advances in product lines to make appropriate buying decisions. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Additionally, Merchandise Buyer typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be a Merchandise Buyer typically requires 4 to 7 years of related experience.     Position Description: The Buyer is responsible for ensuring timely purchase and delivery of materials for projects following the preferred vendor strategies and purchasing policies set by the Senior Buyer and Supply Chain Manager.  The Buyer is also responsible for the purchase of indirect materials and coordination of indirect services as needed.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Process BOM releases from both Mechanical Engineering and Controls Engineering
      • Sort and classify prints for manufactured content
      • Make insource vs. outsource decisions for manufactured content based upon need date of materials and current internal capacity availability
      • RFQ vendors for both manufactured and purchased content
      • Process purchase orders
      • Negotiate pricing as appropriate
      • Update system with vendor acknowledgments
      • Follow up on late orders from vendors
    • Process requisitions from build floor and engineering
    • Resolve record accuracy issues
    • Maintain information regarding status of material spend vs. budget and material timing vs. project timeline
    • Onboard new vendors as needed
    • Interface with members of the other functional groups at Axis as the purchasing liaison for their projects
    • Participate in process improvement projects as they relate to purchasing and material delivery
    • Other duties as assigned

     

     Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
    • In lieu of degree 2-3 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in an engineer to order manufacturing environment.
