This position is located within the Tifton Metrology Laboratory of the GDA Laboratory Division.
The Metrology Laboratory is responsible for calibrating all types of equipment to contribute to the proper testing of standards to the national standards of accuracy on commercial weighing and measuring devices.
Under general supervision, collects and organizes data and conducts analyses; provides technical assistance to staff; monitors and analyzes databases.
Job Summary:
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
· Maintain and improve the Quality Control Program for the State’s standards.
· Update and analyze control charts.
· Calibrate laboratory and field standards of mass and volume.
· Make recommendations for the approval, modification, or rejection of weighing and measuring artifacts.
· Enter laboratory test data into the laboratory information system.
· Consult with business, industry, state labs, and NIST on technical matters of measurement.
· Provide technical assistance to management.
· Monitors and analyzes databases.
· Obtains and maintains NIST certification to be an authorized signatory.
· Produce and issue calibration certificates to customers

Physical Demands:
· Constant standing/walking
· Lift 50-pound mass artifacts and 53-pound volume artifacts
· Sitting for extended periods
· Exposure to different temperature environments
Preferred Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in physical or natural science from an accredited college or university.
· Knowledge of Excel and PC-based software is preferred.
· Current NIST certifications in mass and volume metrology.
